Students Together for Advising, Registration and Transition (START) is a program designed to assist new students in their transition to college life at Young Harris College.

During START, students spend a couple days on campus, learning about life at YHC and making important preparations for enrollment. Students attend seminars focusing on academic success and student life issues. Students also initiate the registration process by taking the math placement exam, meeting with an academic advisor, and selecting their academic courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Do I Register for START?
The Office of Student Development will begin sending START registration information to deposit-paid students in late February.   Prospective students should complete the admissions process and submit their deposits promptly for priority consideration. Once you receive registration materials, complete the card and return it as soon as possible!

Which START should I attend?
Students are encouraged to attend START as soon as they possibly can. By attending in June or July, students are able to get plans made and important questions answered early! Sign up for fall classes, meet your academic advisor, get to know your classmates . . . the sooner, the better!

Students attending summer school are expected to attend START I, June 13-14.

My parents have already visited campus; do they need to come to START?
On Friday of START, parents and guardians are encouraged to attend parent orientation sessions, which are specifically designed to address the topics related to having a student enrolled at YHC.  Participation for parents is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged.  Topics to be discussed include academic expectations, student health care, campus safety, expected student behavior, and overall adjustment to college life.  On Friday, parents will also have opportunities to meet faculty and staff who will be interacting with their student on a regular basis.
