Young Harris College is a selective liberal arts institution serving students who demonstrate strong academic commitment. Founded in 1886 and affiliated with The United Methodist Church, the College currently enrolls approximately 700 students across four divisions - Fine Arts, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, and Social and Behavioral Sciences- with a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1. Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time tenure track assistant professor of Biology position beginning August 1, 2010. The applicant must possess a PhD or ABD in Biology or Microbiology. The candidate will be teaching courses in General Biology for science majors and non-science majors, and will teach upper level courses in microbiology, immunology or other courses related to expertise. Although Young Harris College is primarily a teaching institution, the candidate should also have the capability to direct undergraduate students in guided research experiences.

Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Business and Public Policy to teach in an interdisciplinary program in Business and Public Policy beginning August 1, 2010. This interdisciplinary degree is designed to produce commercial and civic leaders who have a keen awareness of the interrelatedness of business and public policy in a global economy. The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate in a business discipline with a strong commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts curriculum. Applicants with marketing or finance credentials are preferred. Applicants should be able to teach a broad range of introductory business courses. Experience in teaching courses that integrate business, public policy, ethics, and global issues is a plus. Practical experience in business and government is also a plus. Additional responsibilities include committee work and academic advising.

Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication to teach in Communication Studies with a concentration in Media Studies beginning August 9, 2010. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Communication Studies or related field (A.B.D. candidates will be considered), with a strong commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts curriculum. As the major is in its foundational stage, the candidate will be encouraged to take an active role in the creation and implementation of new courses that reflect both their area of expertise as well as the current state of mass media research and practice. Areas of interest include, but are not limited, to journalism, media literacy, media law and policy, media production, new media technologies, media psychology, and media uses and effects research. Research and scholarly work in the candidate's area of expertise is encouraged and supported by the institution, and current faculty members actively publish in a wide variety of top research journals and other academic and scholarly outlets.

Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time position in Computer Information Systems / Computer Science beginning August 1, 2010. The ideal candidate will have earned a master's or higher degree in a Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline and will exhibit a strong commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts setting. A master's degree is expected; a terminal degree is required for tenure track. Applicants should be willing and able to teach introductory computer literacy courses that include an introduction to Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel. The ability to teach additional courses related to the educational or business uses of computers is a plus. The candidate should be equipped to assist in curriculum development as majors in computer science and information technology are developed in the future. Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education, beginning August 1, 2010, to teach a variety of undergraduate foundations and methods education courses, serve as a secondary or middle grades education specialist, and place and supervise field and clinical experiences. Advising of education candidates will also be required. The position involves scholarly activity and professional service as well as opportunities for leadership roles in a new teacher preparation program at a strong liberal arts institution.
The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution and 3 years secondary and/or middle grades public school teaching experience (higher education experience desired); skill in set up and use of instructional technology and online portfolios; competence in interpersonal relationships and team collaboration, ability to work effectively with public school colleagues in setting up and supervising field and clinical experiences, strong oral and written communication skills, and commitment to advancing the institution and Department of Education's commitment to diversity.

>>Assistant/Associate Professor of Music-Director of Bands
Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time Director of Bands at the rank of assistant or associate professor beginning August 9, 2010. Responsibilities include conducting the College/Community Concert Band, the College Wind Ensemble, and possibly the Jazz Ensemble. Teaching responsibilities also include courses in music education with some studio teaching. A lower brass, double reed, or percussion performer is preferred. Duties include assisting in department recruitment and retention efforts, management of the wind/percussion inventory, and responsibility for purchasing and repair of instruments and equipment. Demonstrated success as a band director with a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in grades 6-12 required. College or very successful high school band experience is strongly desired. The successful candidate will hold a doctorate or ABD in Music or Music Education. The following materials will be requested of individuals advancing to the second level of the application process: Sound, and or video recordings of recent concerts, sound or video recordings of personal performance preferred, and concert programs from the previous year.

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Outdoor Education, Experiential Education, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Recreation and Leisure, or related field (A.B.D. candidates will be considered). Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts curriculum. Candidates should have specializations in Experiential Education, Adventure Education and Outdoor Education. Moreover, qualified candidates should expect and embrace wilderness travel and extended expeditions and thusly have an experience and technical skill base that affords effective teaching and leadership in these contexts. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential in addition to the ability to collaborate and co-create with fellow colleagues in the foundation of the Outdoor Education major.

Secondary expertise in a non-Western religious tradition and teaching experience are highly desirable. The candidate should be able to teach lower level courses in world religions, ethics and either Christian theology or Biblical Studies. The candidate should be equipped to assist in curriculum development for a future minor and major in Religious Studies. >>Technology Support Specialist
Young Harris College invites applications for the position of Technology Support Specialist. The Technology Support Specialist works within a customer focused team environment to deliver exceptional service and support to the entire college community. The ideal candidate will possess technology skills in the following areas: desktop/laptop computers, software, printers/copiers, projectors and sound systems. Responsibilities will include installation and maintenance of all technology enhanced classrooms, setup and teardown of audio visual equipment for events, diagnosis of end-user technical issues in the areas of applications, operating systems, hardware, network connectivity and printers. Since technology plays a key role in the overall operation of the College, this position will require occasional work beyond normal business hours and to be on call for situations that require immediate attention. In this position, this person must be a results-driven individual with business acumen, and have the ability to communicate effectively with technical and/or non-technical executives and staff.
An Associate Degree in Computer Information Systems or Business Management is required with 3+ years of experience in providing technology and audio visual support. In lieu of an Associate Degree, 5+ years of experience will be considered. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with people in a variety of situations. Excellent customer service skills are a must. Selected candidate must successfully pass a background check.
