Current Construction

rollins campus center

The centerpiece of Young Harris College’s master plan is the construction of the $41 million, 125,000-square-foot Rollins Campus Center. Named for its $22 million lead gift from the O. Wayne Rollins Foundation, the Rollins Center will become the signature facility at Young Harris College—the social and intellectual heart of campus. The three-and-a-half stories of this new glass, brick and stone building will create a new hub of bustling activity, uniting social and intellectual aspects of a thriving college campus, while optimizing the surrounding mountain views and maximizing outdoor space with numerous porches for inspiration and renewal. The Rollins Center will connect four distinct areas in a single, state-of-the-art structure: a 60,000-square-foot multi-purpose student center, an expanded dining hall boasting a wide variety of food stations, a 350-seat, versatile banquet facility and a 40,000-square-foot modern library—named for Young Harris’ most famous son, Zell Miller, and his remarkable wife, Shirley. The facility will be designed and constructed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards and is expected to earn LEED certification. New Residence Hall

In September 2012, construction began on a new residence hall that will provide an additional 200 beds for freshmen and sophomores. The new residence hall will be configured in “pods,” or small communities consisting of students living in different sizes and styles of rooms surrounding a common bath area. Each pod will also feature lounges and study alcoves, providing students with ample areas to study and socialize. The innovative pod concept is a growing trend in residence life nationwide. It provides both living and learning spaces that encourage student interaction and foster a sense of community during their first couple of years on campus. The new residence hall is scheduled to open in time for Fall 2013 occupancy. The facility will be designed and constructed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards and is expected to earn LEED certification.
