125th Anniversary

From its beginning in a storefront in January of 1886, Young Harris College has always respected its heritage as it grows and changes to meet the needs of modern times. Throughout 2011, Young Harris College commemorated its 125th anniversary with a year full of celebrations. The College kicked off the festivities by hosting a Founder’s Weekend, January 26-29.

In addition to this new event, some of YHC’s annual rituals and events served as special 125th anniversary celebrations.

In May, YHC conferred its first bachelor degrees in nearly a century. Former U.S. Senator and Georgia Governor Zell Miller, ’51, delivered the commencement address for the special historic occasion.

Young Harris College students presented the special original production 125 Years at YHC: You Make Your Own Fun as part of the Commencement festivities that included the annual Vespers Service and a brand new Baccalaureate Service in Susab B. Harris Chapel.

The festivities culminated in July with a special Alumni Weekend when YHC honored the Class of 1961’s 50th reunion and celebrated the College’s rich heritage and promising future.
