"Embracing Diversity" Education Workshop & Shaw Lecture

This interactive workshop is hosted by YHC's Division of Education for YHC pre-service teachers. The event will offer models for the effective engagement of diverse student populations. Topics will include disparity among diverse populations, diversity among special needs populations and the use of technology to reach all learners.

The featured guest speaker is Dr. Derrick M. Tennial, a graduate of the University of Memphis, Freed-Hardeman University and Georgia Southern University. A former secondary English teacher, Dr. Tennial has more than 10 years of experience in the field of education. He taught in Memphis City Schools (1997-2002) and Gwinnett County Public Schools (2002-2005) in metropolitan Atlanta. Dr. Derrick and Shana Hunt will present “Coming to Awareness: Confronting Identity and Defining Culturally Responsive Teaching.” Dr. Tennial is currently the Assistant Director for Georgia Perimeter College’s Gateway to College Academy and Shana Hunt is an instructor in the Gateway to College Academy.
