Renowned Cobb Wind Symphony to Perform at Young Harris College
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.— Young Harris College proudly welcomes the Cobb Wind Symphony to perform a special concert on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. in the Suber Banquet Hall of the Rollins Campus Center on the YHC campus. Part of the annual “Fay Harmon Clegg Hoag Concert Series,” the performance is free and open to the public.
Known for its rich sound, clarity of facility and wonderful sense of musical expression, the Cobb Wind Symphony was founded in 1999 and created to provide a musical outlet and further the development of band music. The band is comprised of more than 100 adult musicians from across the Atlanta area who are brought together by a common love of music.
In 2009, the group earned the prestigious “Sudler Silver Scroll Award,” which recognizes community bands that have demonstrated particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years, and played a significant and leading role in the cultural and musical environment in their respective communities.
The group has appeared in the Midwest Clinic, GMEA In-Service Conferee, National Band Association and College Band Directors National Association Southern Division Conventions, University of Georgia High School Band Workshop and most recently the International Euphonium and Tuba Symposium.
The “Fay Harmon Clegg Hoag Concert Series” is an endowed fund established in 1975 by YHC alumni to honor the late Fay Harmon Clegg Hoag, ’33, wife of a College president and an alumna who was a central member of the community for more than 80 years.
