Theatre Young Harris to Present Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.—Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris will present two performances of Samuel Beckett’s play, “Waiting for Godot.” Performances begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, and Tuesday, Feb. 28, in Dobbs Theatre of the Goolsby Center on the YHC campus. The performances are free and open to the public.

This production tells the story of two characters named Vladimir and Estragon who await endlessly for the arrival of someone named Godot. While waiting, they meet additional characters and engage in a variety of conversations. Throughout their journey, the audience quickly realizes that the world of this play is operating with its own set of rules—where nothing happens, nothing is certain and there is never anything to do.

Directed by senior theatre major Shannon Wade, of Fayetteville, Ga., the production features senior theatre major Clara Levi, of Winder, Ga., freshman theatre major Carrie Worsley, of Warm Springs, Ga., junior theatre majors Hannah Johnson, of Marietta, Ga., and Savannah Williams, of Rutledge, Ga., and Zell and Shirley Miller Library Assistant Ben March, ’16.

“The cast and crew have worked together to create the immersive world of ‘Waiting for Godot’,” said Wade. “The characters, set and costumes are specifically structured to inspire the audience to question identity roles, reality, and relationships.”

“Waiting for Godot” is part of Theatre Young Harris’ Studio Series, which features productions showcasing student direction and provides an invaluable educational experience that focuses on the fundamentals of the production process.

Theatre Young Harris is a performing arts organization of Young Harris College. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more.
