Young Harris College Center for Appalachian Studies and Community Engagement to Host Special Guest Lecture

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Center for Appalachian Studies and Community Engagement will host a lecture by anthropologist Lisa Lefler, Ph.D, and health officer Vickie Bradley on Monday, April 11, at 6 p.m. in Wilson Lecture Hall of Goolsby Center on the YHC campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Lefler and Bradley will deliver a presentation titled “Improving Population Health in the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians: Working Within and With Others.”

Dr. Lefler serves as executive director for The Center for Native Health and director of Western Carolina University’s Culturally-Based Native Health Program. She is a medical and applied anthropologist who has worked with American Indian populations since 1989. Her experience includes substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention approaches, and curriculum development for clinicians working with tribal youth, diabetes prevention research, American Indian fatherhood research, cultural competency and historical intergenerational trauma projects with tribal populations.

A registered nurse, Bradley serves as deputy health officer for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Public Health and Human Services and oversees all tribal health and human services programs.
