Young Harris College Welcomes Guest Artist Kimberly Cole Luevano
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Division of Fine Arts proudly welcomes Dr. Kimberly Cole Luevano for an evening of musical stylings on the clarinet on Saturday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the Susan B. Harris Chapel on the YHC campus. This event is free and open to the public.
With reviews such as “breathtaking…,” “virtuosic tone and technique,” and “exceptionally sensitive and introspective rendition,” Dr. Luevano continually establishes herself as a formidable soloist and chamber musician.
Dr. Luevano, a versatile freelance musician, has performed as a member of the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra, as principal clarinetist of the Ann Arbor, Lansing, Toledo, and Traverse Symphony Orchestras, with the Detroit and Windsor (Canada) Symphony Orchestras, and with Keith Brion’s New Sousa Band.
Dr. Luevano is a member of the University of North Texas faculty. She also has served as a clarinet faculty member for the Interlochen Arts Camp. She was Pedagogy Chairperson for the International Clarinet Association from 2012 to 2014 and has presented acclaimed solo and chamber performances, adjudicated, and presented masterclasses on four continents. She has performed at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest® on numerous occasions.
As an advocate of contemporary American repertoire, Dr. Luevano spearheaded consortiums to commission works for clarinet from composers Evan Chambers and Roshanne Etezady and recorded Michael Daugherty’s “Brooklyn Bridge” with the UNT Wind Symphony in 2015. She is also the founder and director of UNT’s summer workshop program for high school and middle school students, ClarEssentials.
Dr. Luevano plays and endorses Henri Selmer Paris instruments and is a D’Addario and Company Performing Artist. She currently resides in Corinth, Texas, with her husband and two sons.
