The Program:  Associate of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre and Associate of Fine Arts Degree in Musical Theatre. Two-year, liberal arts degrees incorporating a strong background in general studies with specialized study in theatre arts.

The Courses: A full range of theatre courses, including acting, stage movement and dance, theatre history, dramatic literature, stagecraft and design. Recent additional workshops have included the areas of audition technique, period dance, stage combat and stage makeup.

The Plays: Five major productions each year. In a two-year period, students are exposed to the full range of theatre genres, including classical and modern comedies and dramas, musicals and children's plays.  The annual children's theatre production is attended by more than 6,000 children from the southern Appalachian region.  In addition, theatre students participate in an annual Madrigal Dinner performance and in musical variety shows.

The Students: Twenty - five to thirty freshmen and sophomore theatre and musical theatre majors.  An additional 30-40 students participate in the production program each year.  Students staff all production areas including stage management, box office, lighting/ sound control and scenery and costume construction.

The Facilities:
Two fully-equipped performance spaces. The 1,200-seat Glenn Auditorium provides a spacious proscenium stage for full-scale productions, while the new 175-seat Dobbs Theatre is a state-of-the-art flexible space that can be easily adjusted for arena or thrust staging. In addition, the Clegg Fine Arts Building houses fully-equipped scenery and costume shops.

The Scholarships: Scholarships are offered in performance and in technical production areas. The theatre department also employs a number of work-study students each year.

The Faculty:
Two full-time faculty in theatre. In addition, visiting artists and adjunct faculty provide expertise in a number of areas, including scene design, costume design, stage combat and audition technique.

The Future
Students who have participated in the theatre program at Young Harris College continue their studies in theatre and other fields at a wide variety of four-year colleges, universities and professional schools.
