Dr. Paul T. Arnold
Associate Professor of Biology

Dr. Paul T. Arnold has been at Young Harris College for 21 years. He is a graduate of Huntington University where he earned an A.A. in Wildlife Management, and a B.S. in Biological Science in 1982. In 1987 he earned his Ph.D. in Botany from Miami University in Oxford, OH. He came to Young Harris College in 1987 and has taught courses in Biology, Botany, Invertebrate Zoology, Ecology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology. Dr. Arnold's primary professional interests include: The physiological ecology of mycorrhizal fungi, the effects of toxins in mutualistic relationships between plants and their fungal symbionts, biopredator control of the hemlock wooly adelgid, pollen analysis in honey, and the flora of the southern Appalachian bioregion.

Dr. Rosemarie Barkus

 Dr. Rosemare Barkus is in her second year at Young Harris College, where she is excited to be a professor in the biology department. She pursued her fascination with biology and teaching early in high school. She furthered her education at College Misericordia in Dallas, PA, where she obtained a BS in Biology and participated in a Division III swimming program. Dr. Barkus conducted undergraduate level research which she presented at the American Chemical Society Meeting in San Francisco in 2000.   She continued her education in research and genetics at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, where she obtained her Ph. D. in Genetics in 2007.  While there, she conducted research investigating axonal transport in Drosophila axons.  Dr. Barkus has taught workshops to excelled high school students on topics in Genetics, substitute taught in K-12 education in the Hazleton Area School District in Hazleton, PA, and taught as an adjunct Professor at Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke, PA. Her primary research interests include molecular biology, microscopy, and Drosophila genetics.

Brenda K. Hull
Associate Professor of Biology

Brenda K. Hull is in her fifteenth year of teaching at YHC. She earned her B.S. degree in Agriculture, with emphasis in Animal Science, at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and received her M.S. degree in Biology, with emphasis in Ecology and Animal Behavior, at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. Ms. Hull teaches courses in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, and Field Studies. Her primary professional interests lie in the field of ecology, ethology and ornithology.

Dr. Jody R. Stallings
Assistant Professor of Biology

 Dr. Jody Stallings is a second year biology professor at Young Harris College.  He is a graduate of Murray State University where he earned a B.S. in Wildlife Biology in 1977.  After serving in the US Peace Corps in Paraguay (1978-1982), he earned his M.A. in Tropical Conservation in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Forest Resources and Conservation in 1988 from the University of Florida.  Dr. Stallings has lived and worked in Paraguay, Brazil, Ecuador, Guatemala and Uganda for more than 24 years.  His primary professional interests include conservation biology, mammalogy, tropical ecology and primatology.
