ART 101 - Drawing I - 3 Semester Hours
A basic drawing course which explores line, texture, value, shape, form, and composition through the use of still-life, figure, and landscape subjects. The course emphasizes the development of the fundamental skills of drawing and visual perception. Students are encouraged to develop a personal approach through use of a sketchbook. Ten hours of laboratory each week.

ART 102 - Drawing II - 3 Semester Hours
A drawing composition course using the still-life and landscape as subject matter with a strong concentration on the figure. Students explore a variety of drawing mediums such as brush and ink, charcoal, conté crayon, lithography crayons, and pastels. Emphasis is placed upon awareness of design, compositional arrangement, and development of direction in one's own work. Ten hours of laboratory each week.

ART 103 - Design I - 3 Semester Hours
A study of color mixing and basic color theory. Exploration of design in which the principles of composition, organic unity, and the interaction of color are the predominant considerations. Ten hours of laboratory each week.

ART 106 - Art Appreciation - 3 Semester Hours
A course designed to encourage a deeper understanding of the visual arts through illustrated lectures, reading, writing, and creative experiences. Perceptual skills and responses to visual art are refined, and the student develops an understanding of form, content, style, and historic context of great drawings, paintings, sculpture, and architecture.

ART 110 and 111 - Art History - 6 Semester Hours
A survey of world art from the Paleolithic (15,000 B.C.) through the 20th century. This introduction to art history will study the form, content, style, and historic context of crative visual arts of western civilization and other great cultures around the world.

ART 201 - Design - 3 Semester Hours
A three-dimensional design course employing a variety of media: wood, clay, plaster, cardboard, wire, plastics, etc. Ten hours of laboratory each week.

ART 202 - Oil Painting - 3 Semester Hours
The use of oil paint to develop the basic skills of paint application, color use, and composition with a focus on personal expression.
