Ms. Star received her Bachelor of Arts (flute performance) from New College in Sarasota, Florida, her Master of Science (music education) from Florida International University, and her Education Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. In addition to an extensive career as a symphonic musician and private instructor in the Miami area, she was the adjunct professor of flute at Miami-Dade College and Florida International University for over 20 years and a mathematics teacher at Gilmer County High School for 10 years. 

She is a past President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Florida Flute Association, has taught numerous master classes, and conducted honor flute choirs at their conventions.  She was a featured soloist in recital with Julius Baker and in several seasons with the Sarasota Symphony Orchestra, and conducted the National Flute Association flute choir.  She currently performs with the Young Harris College Community Band, the Misty Mountain Wind Quintet, and records with the Windsong Trio.
