Jeff Bauman

Mr. Bauman has been the Director of Choral/Vocal Studies since 1992. He has Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music Education and Music Performance from Spring Arbor College and Master of Music degrees in Choral Conducting Performance and Vocal Performance from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Bauman has performed leading roles with Opera South Carolina, Atlanta Lyric Theater, Toledo Opera, Asheville Lyric Opera, and Opera Lenawee. Orchestral appearances include performances with the Jackson Symphony and the Cleveland (OH) Chamber Orchestra. As a choral conductor, Mr. Bauman is in demand as an adjudicator and clinician, having recently conducted 100 high school singers for the Ninth District GMEA honor choir event. In addition to his YHC responsibilities, Mr. Bauman is the Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church of Union County.

Karen Calloway

Ms. Calloway joined the music faculty in 2007. She has extensive vocal and instrumental (flute) experience. Karen completed her Bachelor of Music Education (choral) from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Her Master of Music (vocal performance) was earned at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida.

Cynthia DeFoor

Mrs. DeFoor was appointed Staff Accompanist in 1998 and adjunct music faculty in 2000. She has a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from Shorter College, where she studied piano with Elizabeth Buday. Ms. DeFoor has studied organ with Peter DeWitt and Jan van Otterloo. Mrs. DeFoor has been an independent music teacher for twenty-four years in Florida and Georgia. Mrs. DeFoor has extensive accompanying and collaborative music experience in both chamber and orchestral settings. She is a member of Music Teachers National Association, Georgia Music Teachers Association, Northeast Georgia Music Teachers Association, Music Educators National Association, Georgia Music Educators Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. In addition to her YHC duties, Mrs. DeFoor is the Organist/Choirmaster at St. Clare’s Episcopal Church in Blairsville, GA.

Dr. Keith DeFoor

Keith DeFoor, Chair of the Division of Fine Arts, joined the YHC faculty in 1998. Dr. DeFoor has earned from Shorter College the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and from Florida State University the Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and the Ph.D. in Music Theory. Dr. DeFoor’s teachers include Elizabeth Buday (piano), Edward Kilenyi (piano), Peter Spencer (theory), Ralph Tilden (organ), and Robert Steinbauer (piano). Dr. DeFoor has been a featured piano soloist with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (FL). Dr. DeFoor has been a consultant for the Georgia Council of the Arts. Dr. DeFoor is a Board Member for the Georgia Music Teachers Association and the Georgia Music Educators Association as well as an evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Music. In addition, Dr. DeFoor is the organist at the First United Methodist Church of Union County.

Richard Knepp

Mr. Knepp was appointed Adjunct Professor of Guitar in 1999. He earned a Bachelor of Instrumental Performance at Georgia College & State University and a Master of Music in Instrumental Performance at Georgia State University. He has also studied with Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and with Christopher Parkening at Montana State University.

Mary Ann Fox

Ms. Fox was appointed Professor of Music in 1959 and has been Professor Emerita of Music since 1998. She is currently serving the Music Department as Adjunct Professor of Piano. Ms. Fox has earned the Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and the Master of Music degree in piano performance from Indiana University. She has studied with Dwight Drexler, Menahem Pressler, and Edwin Gerschefski. Ms. Fox serves as organist at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris.

Alan Denmon

Mr. Denmon was appointed Adjunct Professor of Woodwinds in 1999. He has a Bachelor of Music in music education from Berry College and Master of Music Education degree from the VanderCook College of Music. Mr. Denmon has 19 years of experience in public school music education and is currently the Director of Bands for the Union County School System.
