Sutherland Guitar Series - Guest Artist Recital: Dr. Nicolas Deuson, guitar

Sunday, March 17, 3 p.m.

Guest artist Dr. Nicolas Deuson is in demand as both a solo performer and chamber musician. First prize winner
of the 2010 Pacific Guitar Competition, he studied under John Sutherland at the University of Georgia, with Jason
Vieaux at the Cleveland Institute of Music and with Scott Tennant at the University of Southern California. He will
present a varied program of literature from the solo classical guitar repertoire.

Young Harris College Guitar Ensemble

Tuesday, March 19, 7 p.m.
Susan B. Harris Chapel; free admission
Under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Richard Knepp, the Young Harris College Guitar Ensemble will present “An Evening with Bach.” The ensemble will perform arrangements and transcriptions of J. S. Bach, featuring settings for guitar duo, trio and quartet. In addition, several members of the ensemble will perform solo works for classical guitar.

Young Harris College Concert Band

Thursday, March 21, 7 p.m.
Glenn Auditorium, Clegg Fine Arts Building; $6 adults/$3 students/free for children 12 and under
Directed by Mary Land, the Young Harris College Concert Band will perform a musical tribute to contemporary
composers. The concert will feature some of the newest compositions for wind band and several nationally recognized guest conductors.

Young Harris College Piano Ensemble

Tuesday, March 26, 7 p.m.
Glenn Auditorium, Clegg Fine Arts Building; free admission
Comprised of students current studying piano, the Young Harris College Piano Ensemble will perform works for piano duet (four hands, one piano) and piano trio (six hands, one piano) with musical selections from the Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods of musical history.

Young Harris College Concert Choir

Friday, April 5, 7 p.m.
Glenn Auditorium, Clegg Fine Arts Building; $6 adults/$3 students/free for children 12 and under
Enjoy an evening of “Music in the Movies.” Under the direction of Dr. John Wayman, the Young Harris College Concert Choir celebrates the marriage of music and film with splices of the greats, like Carmina Burana (Orff), Mozart, Gershwin, Verdi and many more.
 

Pops on the Plaza

Tuesday, April 9, 7 p.m.
YHC Plaza; free admission
The Young Harris College Community Band will present its highly anticipated annual outdoor spring concert. A local favorite, the band will feature familiar hits by Copland, Gerschwin, Holst and Sousa.

Young Harris College Jazz Band

Monday, April 15, 7 p.m.
Glenn Auditorium, Clegg Fine Arts Building; free admission
The Young Harris College Jazz Band will perform a variety of big band jazz styles. Featured in this performance will
be jazz vocalist Lee Holland performing several big band jazz vocal classics. Directed by Dr. Mike Campbell, the
ensemble guarantees an evening of jazz appealing to all ages.

Acapalooza

Tuesday, April 16, 7 p.m.
Glenn Auditorium, Clegg Fine Arts Building; $6 adults/$3 students/free for children 12 and under
The Young Harris College Chamber Choir closes its season with the wildly popular concert sensation Acapalooza. This
annual audience favorite devoted to lighter fare features traditional choral forays into jazz and a cappella singing and puts the focus on individual members of the group, featuring them as soloists with the Chamber Choir. The choir is directed by Jeff Bauman.

Young Harris College Concert Band

Tuesday, April 23, 7 p.m.
Glenn Auditorium, Clegg Fine Arts Building; $6 adults/$3 students/free for children 12 and under
The Young Harris College Concert Band will conclude the academic year with a spectacular program featuring the many talented musicians in the YHC band program. In addition to several student soloists, the performance features a student conductor leading the band in a dynamic concert overture. Directed by Senior Instructor of Music and Director of Bands Mary Land, the band will also perform music by Grundman, Grainger and the great Clifton Williams.
