Roberta Rankin
Professor of Theatre

Since 1987, Roberta Rankin has been the Artistic Director for Theatre Young Harris. She directs two productions each year; costumes all Theatre YHC shows; choreographs dances for and costumes the annual Madrigal Dinner; and teaches classes in acting, movement and dance, theatre history and dramatic literature, and theatre appreciation. Certified as a teacher of the Alexander Technique by Alexander Technique International, she teaches private lessons for YHC students as well as community members. Roberta holds a B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL and a Ph.D. in theatre history from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Additional studies have included a summer's work in archeology and art history at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, Greece; historical dance study with specialization in Medieval, Renaissance, and English Country Dance at the International Early Dance Institute, Goucher College; and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship to Aston Magna Academy, Yale University, for interdisciplinary studies in eighteenth century culture.

Tom Jeffery
Professor of Theatre

Tom Jeffery began teaching in the Young Harris College theatre department in 1980 and currently serves as Technical Director for Theatre Young Harris. From 1984 to 2003, Tom served as chair of the Young Harris College Fine Arts Division. He holds a B.A. degree in English from Elon College (NC) and a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre technology from Florida State University. At Young Harris College, he teaches courses in stagecraft, scene design, dramatic literature, and theatre appreciation. Prior to coming to Young Harris, Tom served on the theatre faculties of LaGrange (GA) College, Tufts University in Medford, MA, and the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha. In addition, he has worked with various summer stock companies for more than twenty summers, including theatres in New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Wisconsin, California, Illinois and Georgia. Tom has continued his theatre studies through a National Endowment for the Humanities Grant for study at Columbia University in New York City and a Young Harris College Faculty Development Grant for study at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. He holds memberships in the Georgia Theatre Conference and the Southeastern Theatre Conference and is a member of the Past-presidents council of the Georgia Theatre Conference.

Dale K. Cochran
Adjunct Faculty (Scene Designer)

A native Atlantan, Dale graduated from Georgia State University and worked for Rich's, Inc. for 10 years as creative events supervisor. He moved to Hiawassee to pursue his artistic career 27 years ago. His paintings of Georgia birds and wildflowers have been exhibited in national and local shows. In 1986, he designed a paper Christmas tree ornament and hand-made 300 of them for the Carter Presidential Library Christmas tree. The Museum of Modern Art purchased one of his Christmas card designs and it was featured in their Christmas Catalog from 1988 to 1990. In 1990, Artist Magazine selected Dale as one of their top 125 wildlife artists in America, and the Museum of Modern Art purchased another of his Christmas card designs for their 1998 catalog. Dale has been associated with Theatre Young Harris for over 20 years and has designed 30 sets for the theatre. He also has served as Adjunct Professor of Art at Young Harris College. |

Hannah Jones
Adjunct Professor of Dance

Hannah Jones joined the Young Harris College faculty as Adjunct Professor of Dance in 2006. Ms. Jones has earned the B.A. in Philosophy and Religion and a minor in Dance from Appalachian State University. During her time at Appalachian State University, Ms. Jones danced with the Appalachian Dance Ensemble and debuted as a choreographer with the North Carolina Dance Festival. Ms Jones has worked with a number of private dance studios in western North Carolina and north Georgia.
