Dr. Myers was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Young Harris College in 2012. Prior to that, Dr. Myers served in numerous roles at Mississippi State University including dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, professor of English, director of The Institute for the Humanities, director of freshman English and director of creative writing. He previously served as chairman of English and assistant professor of English at Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania. Earlier in his career, Dr. Myers also taught at the University of Houston, Houston Community College and Houston Baptist University. He has published two award-winning books of poetry, titled “Lifetime Possessions” and “World Effects,” and more than 100 of his poems have appeared in numerous publications throughout the United States and Canada including The New Yorker, Poetry, Kansas Quarterly, Louisville Review, Indiana Review, California Quarterly, The Albany Review and American Poetry Monthly. He is currently working on a poetry manuscript that focuses on the Holocaust titled “Planet Auschwitz,” as well as a poetry manuscript titled “Life’s Promise.” Dr. Myers earned his B.S. in education with an English major at the University of Nebraska, his M.F.A. in English and creative writing from the University of Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop, and his Ph.D. in English and creative writing from the University of Houston.
