Inclement Weather Policy
Young Harris College will maintain its schedule of classes as published in the College catalog except in cases of dire circumstances. The authority to cancel regularly scheduled classes rests with the President of the College. Should an emergency require the College to cancel classes, the College will utilize the media to inform its students, faculty and staff of this decision.
Young Harris College considers the safety of its students, faculty and staff to be of utmost importance. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to exercise extreme caution when traveling under hazardous conditions. If the campus is open, all administrators, faculty and staff are expected to make every reasonable effort to maintain regular work schedules. Faculty members unable to come to campus because snow or ice make driving hazardous, should notify the Office of the Academic Dean (by emailing karenw@yhc.edu ). This office will maintain a list of classes that will not meet as scheduled. You can hear this list of cancelled classes by calling 706-379-5045. That recording will be updated throughout the day.
In the event of inclement weather, students may call 706-379-5045 to find out if a particular class is meeting as scheduled. Students who are unable to attend class due to inclement weather or unsafe driving conditions are responsible for all academic work they miss, and must take the initiative to make up missed class work. Students who are unable to attend classes due to bad weather or unsafe driving conditions should contact their teachers via telephone and should meet with their professors immediately upon their return to campus. Faculty members will provide reasonable opportunities for students to complete assignments or missed examinations due to absences caused by inclement weather or hazardous driving conditions.
