Steve Morgan
Professor of Astronomy
Director of Rollins Planetarium
The planetarium director & astronomy professor is Steve Morgan. He joined the staff of Young Harris College in the summer of 2005. He was the recipient of both the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award and the Ezra Sellers Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Students of Young Harris College in 2007.
Steve received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a graduate student, he worked at the university's Morehead Planetarium and was awarded the Morehead Fellowship in Planetarium Administration & Education.
With more than 25 years experience in the planetarium/astronomy field, his other jobs have included the Gibbes Planetarium in Columbia, SC, the Schiele Planetarium in Gastonia, NC, and the Roper Mountain Science Center in Greenville, SC.
Concurrent with those positions, he also taught college courses at the University of South Carolina-Upstate, Belmont Abbey College, and the Science PLUS Teacher Institute offered through Furman University.
