School Shows
Weekday Shows for Schools and Groups
The Rollins Planetarium presents educational shows for school classes or other groups wishing to learn more about the sky. To schedule a showing, e-mail Planetarium Director Steve Morgan by clicking here or call him at (706) 379-5130 at least two weeks in advance of your requested time. Please have the following information available: the time and date requested, the show title you would like to see, and the approximate number of people attending. The seating capacity of the planetarium is 109. There is no admission charge.
Groups wishing to have a picnic lunch before or after their planetarium visit may wish to consider Mayor's Park. This small park, operated by the city of Young Harris, is conveniently located just down Maple Street from the planetarium. There is a small playground with swings, a covered gazebo, and several picnic tables. Click here for a printable map.

The Zula Patrol: Under the Weather
(recommended for pre-K to 3rd graders)
From the far reaches of outer space comes the Zula Patrol as they try to save the Solar System's weather from interplanetary villain Dark Truder. Based on the highly-acclaimed PBS TV series and written by Zula's Emmy-award winning staff, this exciting new fulldome show will help your students learn all about weather on Earth and other planets as well! Supports many national and state science education standards.

The Friendly Stars
(recommended for K-2nd graders)
Ideal for the youngest students, this show provides an introduction to the daytime and nighttime skies, and a highlighted tour of the solar system. Includes delightful animation sequences to augment a live-narrated performance.

The Problem with Pluto
(recommended for grades 3 & up)
Available beginning November 2008
"When is a planet not a planet?" is the question posed by Lucy Leavitt, who along with her mother Lillian, is on board a research craft heading to the outer limits of our Solar System. They learn how Pluto is different from the other planets and discover the challenges of defining just what a planet should be.

The Cowboy Astronomer
(recommended for grades 4 & up)
Available beginning November 2008
This skillfully woven tapestry of star tales and Native American legends- combined with constellation identification, star-hopping, and nuggets of astronomy information- is told from the unique viewpoint of a cowboy astronomer who has traveled the world plying his trade and learning the sky along the way. The basic premise of the show is simple: we're in the great outdoors, listening to star legends and cowboy tales around the campfire.

Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity

This exciting fulldome production brings the current science of black holes to the dome screen. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, witness the collision of giant galaxies, and experience a simulated flight to a supermassive black hole lurking at the center of our own Milky Way Galaxy.
