Dr. Brian Hoffman has been teaching at Young Harris College since 2006. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Morris, where he earned a B.A. in chemistry. In 1999, he earned his Ph.D. in computational chemistry from the University of Georgia. Following a post-doctoral position at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, he went on to earn an M.S. in computer science while teaching computer courses fulltime at the Community College of Baltimore County. At YHC, he has taught classes in computer programming, computer literacy, web design and the occasional chemistry lab. Dr. Hoffman’s primary interest is in finding ways to make computers both accessible and understandable to students and the general public. He is also interested in the application of computers to the solution of scientific problems, particularly ab initio electronic structure methods in chemistry.
