Dr. Schroeder joined the biology faculty of Young Harris College in the fall of 2010. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., and her doctorate in molecular pharmacology from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where she investigated a novel anti-tumor agent that will hopefully be useful in treating breast cancer patients in the near future. She further trained at Penn State University in a molecular toxicology laboratory, examining the effects of dioxin and similar compounds on gene regulation. She is currently researching the roles of multiple bioflavanoids in gene regulation with a number of undergraduate YHC students. Dr. Schroeder is excited to be at Young Harris College, where she teaches general biology as well as upper-level classes that focus on the molecular aspects of biology such as cell biology, genetics and pharmacology. In her free time she is active at church, enjoys running, camping, cooking and quilting.
