Welcome to Young Harris College!

I am glad you are here and I hope that you are able to find answers to all of your questions.

Young Harris College was founded by a circuit riding Methodist preacher, Artemas Lester, in 1886 and we remain proud of our association with the United Methodist Church. The alma mater of such distinguished alumni as Senator Zell Miller, Ronnie Milsap, and Trisha Yearwood, Young Harris has also served as a starting point for doctors, attorneys, teachers, ministers, and business leaders.

Many liberal arts institutions are able to provide an excellent learning environment but because Young Harris College specializes in the first two years of college, students are able to interact with outstanding professors from the moment they step on campus. The members of the faculty are committed to undergraduate teaching and they rank as some of the finest classroom instructors you will ever experience. From Young Harris College, students transfer to such institutions as Emory, Davidson, Berry, University of North Carolina, University of Tennessee, University of Florida, and the University of Georgia.

Young Harris College strives to educate the whole person. To that end, we have an honor code that all students sign so that we might encourage upstanding moral and ethical development. Numerous clubs, organizations, and outdoor educational programs are all available in order to ensure a rich academic and social experience for our students.

Please plan a trip to the lovely "enchanted valley" of Young Harris, Georgia, and visit the college. Do not hesitate to come by my office if I can be of further assistance to you as you plan your academic career.

Sincerely,

Dr. John Wilson Wells
