PSY 102 Introduction to Psychology - 3 semester hours credit
In Psychology 102 students are introduced to the major theories and concepts that explain human behavior. Freud's development of psychoanalysis to explain the unconscious,Skinner's study of only observable behavior, Maslow's self-actualized humanistic psychology and new discoveries in neuroscience are a few of the topics included.
PSY 201 Human Growth and Development - 3 semester hours credit
Psychology 201, Human Growth and Development, is designed as an introduction to Developmental Psychology. It is required for Education majors and is suggested for nursing, physical therapy, recreation, and any major dealing with the developing individual. The classic theories of Freud, Erikson, Watson, Skinner, Piaget,and Maslow are considered, as well as current theories of evolutionary Psychology, recent neurological discoveries, and Vygotsky's cultural emphasis. Several papers and out-of-class projects are required.
SOC 120 Introduction to Sociology - 3 semester hours credit
People are a product of heredity and the culture or society that surrounds them.
In Sociology 120 the forces of our culture that shape our thinking and our behavior are explored. Socialization by the family, the educational system, peer pressure, religious beliefs, and the workplace are all considered, but special emphasis is given to the increasing influence of the media on creating the individual.
