David and Margaret Mullins, long-time members of the Young Harris College family, and their daughters LaRanda Mullins Mauldin and DeBronda Mullins, were honored for their many years of service to the institution.  Mr. and Mrs. Mullins and their daughters operated the campus  bookstore, known as The Little Store, from 1961 until 2008.

During the 2008 Homecoming festivities on July 26, President Cathy Cox and members of the YHC Board of Trustees unveiled a replica of a bronze plaque commemorating the Mullins’ 47 years of dedicated service to Young Harris College and its students.  The plaque will be placed next to the door of The Little Store, which is located in Sharp Hall.

Mr. and Mrs. Mullins met at Young Harris College in 1960, at a Chapel service when David claims the only empty seat was next to Margaret.  Margaret graduated from YHC in 1960 and David graduated in 1961.  David took over the operation of The Little Store shortly after graduation, at the request of Dr. Charles Clegg.  Margaret later joined him in the store, and the couple married over spring break in 1962.

The Mullins are loved by generations of YHC graduates and stories abound about the couple and the personal touch they always provided in serving the students and faculty of the institution. Upon their retirement in 2007, their daughters, LaRanda Mauldin and DeBronda Mullins, took over management of The Little Store until June 2008.

Founded in 1886, Young Harris College is a private, core liberal arts college which is transitioning from a two-year institution into a baccalaureate-granting institution.  Historically affiliated with The United Methodist Church, a primary goal of Young Harris College is to provide a quality education for the whole person: intellectually, socially, culturally, and spiritually.
