Residence Hall Named to Honor Dr. and Mrs. William Harry Hill
Dr. and Mrs. William Harry Hill Honored at Young Harris College
Cathy Cox, president of Young Harris College (YHC), along with Jerry W. Nix, chairman of the YHC board of trustees, and other dignitaries, paid tribute to two of the College’s most philanthropic donors in a naming ceremony for Hillgrove Hall, the newest residence hall on campus, during the Homecoming 2008 festivities on July 26, 2008. Dr. William Harry Hill and his wife, Mrs. Harriet Hargrove Hill, through their many donations to the College, have enabled YHC to continue to remain on the forefront of educational trends, and to attract academically strong students by providing scholarship assistance.
The residence hall combines Dr. Hill’s name with Mrs. Hill’s maiden name, Hargrove, to become Hillgrove Hall. The Hills also donated land to Cobb County for construction of the high school known as Hillgrove High School.

Dr. Hill joined the board of trustees of Young Harris College in 1976. Since that time, he and his wife have offered scholarship funds annually to eligible students at Young Harris College, endowed two chairs at the institution, and continue to make numerous gifts each year in honor and memory of friends. Dr. Hill plays an active role in recruiting students, bringing young men and women to campus each year to tour the College and meet professors, other students, and administrators.
Dedicated United Methodists, Dr. and Mrs. Hill are active members of McEachern United Methodist Church in Powder Springs, Georgia. The McEachern Scholarship was established by Dr. Hill in 2002, for students who are members of McEachern United Methodist Church and wish to attend Young Harris College.
Dr. Hill initiated the W. Harry and Harriet Hill Society of Planned Giving to encourage friends of the college to do as they have done and make planned gifts to YHC. The Society now has dozens of members who are making planned gifts to the College. A retired physician, Dr. Hill has also taken an active personal interest in the Biology program at Young Harris College, offering support and advice to our faculty and administrators.
