Theatre Young Harris and the Friends of the Arts Society Present
The Beauty Queen of Leenane

Cathy Cox, president of Young Harris College, is pleased to announce that The Beauty Queen of Leenane, by Martin McDonagh, will be performed April 17-19, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. in the Dobbs Theatre.  In the mountains of far western Ireland lives Maureen Folan (forty and still a virgin) with her aging, manipulative mother, Mag.  Locked in a mutual loathing that may be more durable than any love, the women exist in seemingly endless dysfunction.  When Maureen has a first and possibly final chance for a loving relationship, Mag’s response to her daughter’s potential departure sets in motion a train of events that leads inexorably to a terrifying conclusion.  A blend of black comedy, melodrama, horror and bleak tragedy, McDonaugh’s powerful play has won a host of distinguished awards, among them four 1996 Tonys.  Because of subject matter and language, this production is intended for mature audiences.

Theatrical performances are supported in part by the Friends of the Arts Society at Young Harris College.  For more information about how you can join Friends of the Arts, please contact Bert W. Huffman ’97, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, at (706) 379-5112.

A portion of the ticket price for these plays helps support the service activities of the Delta Gamma Drama Society and Pro Musica Camerata, the YHC Music Society.  Reservations or ticket information may be obtained by calling the Box Office at (706) 379-4307.  The Box Office will begin taking reservations and selling tickets two weeks prior to the opening of a production and will observe the following hours:
          Monday-Friday                       10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
          Evening of performances        6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Tickets may be available on the evening of the performance; however, it is strongly recommended that reservations be made in advance.  Refunds and exchanges will not be made after 7:00 p.m. on performance evenings.

Tickets for all productions may be reserved by telephone during the above hours and should be picked up at the Theatre Box Office in the lobby of the Goolsby Center between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Reserved tickets that have not been picked up in advance will be held only until 7:30 p.m. on the evening of the performance.
