Young Harris College Signs Transfer Agreement with Georgia Perimeter College
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Young Harris College President Cathy Cox signed a transfer contract with Georgia Perimeter College President Dr. Anthony Tricoli on Tuesday, Oct. 20, creating an official transfer agreement for Georgia Perimeter students who wish to continue their education at Young Harris College.
The two-part contract includes an articulation agreement that facilitates a smooth transfer of students and credit hours between the two institutions and a transfer admission guarantee for Georgia Perimeter students who complete the required general education coursework and meet Young Harris College admissions requirements.
"Georgia Perimeter College has rapidly become one of the largest two-year colleges in the Southeast," said Young Harris College President Cox. "As we continue to grow, we are excited to partner with Georgia Perimeter to offer their students the opportunity to complete their bachelor's degree. I am confident that Young Harris College will be a great destination for those students looking for a strong liberal arts environment."
The agreement is a win-win for both institutions. "In these economic times, it is important to give students more flexibility and more options," Georgia Perimeter President Tricoli said. "Not only will our students get an outstanding, affordable education that's close to home, but they also are guaranteed an opportunity to continue their instruction at an institution that fits their needs."
The transfer admission guarantee allows students to complete core courses at Georgia Perimeter College and then transfer to Young Harris College to begin upper division work immediately. Students who choose to take advantage of the admission guarantee must graduate from Georgia Perimeter with an associate degree, at least a 2.5 GPA and at least 60 transferable credits, the last 30 of which must be earned at Georgia Perimeter.
"This agreement provides seamless access between the two institutions for transfer students. I am very excited that we have this official agreement, and Young Harris College looks forward to becoming a prime senior college destination for students who have spent their first two years at Georgia Perimeter College," said Clint Hobbs, vice president for enrollment management at Young Harris College.
Dr. Ron Roach, vice president for academic affairs at Young Harris College, echoed Hobbs' enthusiasm. "Georgia Perimeter College provides excellent preparation for students who wish to transfer to senior institutions," he said. "The Young Harris College faculty is excited about the prospects of welcoming students from GPC."
Georgia Perimeter College is the third largest institution of the University System of Georgia and serves more than 24,500 students through four campuses and several sites in metro Atlanta.
"It's our mission to give students every opportunity to succeed in a globalized marketplace," said Virginia Michelich, vice president for academic affairs at Georgia Perimeter College. "As the largest provider of transfer students in the University System of Georgia, we are committed to creating civically engaged citizens whose lives have been dynamically changed."
