Young Harris College/Community Concert Band to Perform November 10
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Division of Fine Arts will present the Young Harris College/Community Concert Band in concert Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in Glenn Auditorium of the Clegg Fine Arts Building on the Young Harris College campus. The performance is free and open to the public. Dr. Benny P. Ferguson, dean of the Division of Fine Arts, will serve as conductor. Daniel Isaacs, assistant band director at Towns County High School, will serve as guest conductor. Isaacs is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and is a member of the percussion section of the Young Harris College/Community Concert Band.
The program includes a variety of familiar classic and contemporary works. The concert opens with “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite,” a fast-moving circus march often performed for “The Greatest Show on Earth,” followed by the classic concert band piece “Emerata Overture.” The ensemble will then perform “For All the Wyle Eternal,” a new composition by Ralph Ford, former band director at Troy State University. The piece was written in memory of Gene Wyles, who served as band director in Sylvester, Ga., for more than 30 years as well as at Abraham Baldwin College.
Also on the program are “Perthshire Majesty” and selections from the Broadway hit Westside Story, including “I Feel Pretty,” “Maria,” “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “One Hand, One Heart,” “Cool,” and “America.”
The Concert Band will close out the evening with the slow march “Inglesina ‘The Little English Girl’” and a truly grand finale “Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna.”
