Young Harris College Alumnus Ralston Elected Nominee
for Georgia Speaker of the House
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – On Thursday morning, Dec. 17, Young Harris College alumnus David E. Ralston, ‘74, of Blue Ridge, was elected as the Republican nominee for Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Formal election by the full House will take place when the General Assembly convenes in January.
Rep. Ralston was appointed chairman of the Non-Civil Judiciary Committee in 2005. He is currently serving his third term in the House of Representatives and is a member of the Republican Party. He also serves on the Appropriations, Rules and Transportation committees. He represents District 7.
Aside from his legislative duties, Rep. Ralston is a successful attorney. His civic duties include active participation with the Fannin County Chamber of Commerce, Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and the Blue Ridge Lions Club.
Born in Ellijay, Rep. Ralston earned his bachelor’s degree from North Georgia College and State University and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.
He and his wife Jane have two children, Elizabeth and Matt.
