General Information

Admissions Criteria

Young Harris College invites applications from all persons, without regard to race, creed, sex, handicap, or national origin. Acceptance to the college is based on the academic high school grade point average and SAT or ACT scores. Currently we are using only the math and critical reading portions of the SAT for admission. See Student Profile for incoming freshmen averages and SAT scores.

Joint Enrollment
This program is designed to attract superior high school students. With approval from their high school, students may satisfy high school course requirements by enrolling in courses at Young Harris College. To qualify for the program, students must have a minimum 3.0 high school average in academic subjects and a combined score of 970 on the SAT or a composite score of 21 on the ACT.

Home Schooled Students
Admission decisions are based on a student’s academic grade point average and SAT I or ACT scores. Along with the application for admission, students should send a transcript of high school work along with SAT or ACT scores. If the home school program has been conducted through a formal program, the transcript should be official and from the home school program. If the parents have designed the curriculum, the transcript should detail subjects studied, textbooks used, and an evaluation of the student’s performance. If a student has taken the GED, these scores should also be submitted. In some cases, the GED may be required to complete the admissions process.

Transfer Students
Students wishing to transfer to Young Harris from other colleges must provide all required application credentials, including an official transcript from the college or colleges previously attended. Transfer credit is granted for those courses in which a grade of C or higher has been earned and which can be equated to courses at Young Harris for the Associate of Arts, Fine Arts, or Science degree. Students who are on academic probation at the institution last attended, if admitted, will be accepted at Young Harris on probation.

Young Harris College will accept transient students from other institutions. The parent institution must send a letter of transient permission to the director of admissions.

Readmission
Students who have previously attended Young Harris College and want to re-enter should contact the admissions office and ask for an application for readmission.

The admissions office, upon receipt of the completed readmission application, will ask the admissions committee for a decision on the applicant. The student is then notified by the admissions office of the committee's decision. A student may be asked to meet with the committee before a decision is made.

Early Admission
Highly qualified, mature high school students who have completed three years of college preparatory work with a minimum 3.5 grade point average may apply for early admission. For early admission, candidates must have a combined math and critical reading (verbal) SAT score of at least 1000 or a composite of 24 on the ACT, and have unqualified recommendations from high school officials.
