International Admissions

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS and PROCEDURES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

For purposes of admission, an international student is defined as a student who is not a United States citizen or does not have permanent residency status (Green Card) or who is or will be temporarily in the U.S. in a non-immigrant status.

In order to make the application process as smooth as possible please read and follow these steps.

1     Submit an Application for Admission

The most convenient way to submit an application for admission is to complete the online application (use link to the left). If you need an application mailed to you, please click here to request one.

2     Submit Official Transcripts of Academic Records

Applicants who have completed coursework, high school/secondary school or university-level, in the United States will need to request an official copy of all transcripts to be sent directly from your school(s) in a sealed envelope to the Office of Admissions.

Applicants who have completed coursework, high school/secondary school or university-level, outside of the United States will need to request an official copy of all transcripts and/or examination results to be sent directly from the school or Ministry of Education in a sealed envelope to the YHC Office of Admissions.  If your transcripts are not in English you will also need to submit an official translation of your transcript.  We will accept translations from the services listed below.  Official translations must be forwarded to Young Harris College from the agency.

3     English Proficiency

Applicants whose native language is not English will need to submit proof of English proficiency.   Any one of the following may be submitted for proof of English proficiency. Results must be sent directly to the Young Harris College Admissions Office by the testing agency.

*Official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL is given worldwide and there is a fee for the examination. A 550 paper-based or 220 computer based or 79 (IBT) internet-based minimum score is required. For more information, visit www.toefl.org

*Successful completion of level 109 at an ELS Language Center. Young Harris College does not offer an ESL program.

*Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) critical reading score of 450.

*Advanced Placement International English Language (APIEL) grade of 3 or higher

4     Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

Students whose native language is English will be required to submit official College Entrance Examination Board Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores. Make sure when you register to take the SAT you indicate on the form you would like your scores sent directly to Young Harris College.  The College Board number for YHC is 5990. Generally, United States embassies and U.S. Information Services (USIS) offices have information on testing dates and places. You may also write to the College Entrance Examination Board, Box 592-R, Princeton, New Jersey 08541, USA.

5     Complete the Financial Guarantee Statement

The Financial Guarantee Statement (FGS) must be completed and returned to the Office of Admissions. A Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) will be issued once the applicant has been found admissible to the College and the FGS has been approved.

The College is required by immigration authorities to carefully check the financial resources of each applicant prior to issuing the Form I-20. Therefore, it is imperative that applicants are aware of the cost of attending Young Harris and have the necessary support funds for the period of enrollment.  The minimum amount of financial support for study at Young Harris College for the 2009-2010 academic year is US $31,083. (This amount includes $19,335 for tuition and fees, $6,548 for living expenses, and $4,000 for entertainment, travel, vacation periods, etc.)

All items on the FGS must be answered accurately in order to avoid unnecessary delays in processing. The Office of Admissions must receive this document, along with proof of sufficient funds, no less than two months prior to the anticipated entry date.
