Burgess, a native of Dallas Ga, returns to Young Harris College to begin his coaching career.  A former outfielder/1st baseman, Burgess helped lead the Mountain Lions to back-to-back GJCAA championships in 2001 and 2002.  In two seasons at Young Harris College his teams compiled an outstanding record of 98-25, while batting .340 with 10 home runs. 

Following his tenure at Young Harris, Burgess, transferred to Georgia State University where he played 1st base and even saw time on the mound for Head Coach Mike Hurst.  While at Georgia State, Burgess earned two All-Atlantic Sun honors compiling a batting average of .363 for the Panthers.  During his final season in Atlanta, Burgess set school records in 3 different categories:  Avg .420, Obp .530, 21-game hitting streak and ranks in the top 5 in several others.  His .420 Avg  finished the 2004 season ranked 7th in the nation. Coach Burgess hold a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Georgia State University.

For his efforts in his senior campaign, Burgess was chosen in the 22nd round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox where he played for two and a half years in Lowell, Mass, Augusta, Ga, and Wilmington, De.

As a coach at Young Harris, Burgess’ responsibilities will include working with the outfielders, strength and conditioning, assisting with the hitters and recruiting.
