Game 1
YHC 12 - New Mexico JC 14

The Young Harris College Mountain Lions could not overcome the top ranked New Mexico Thunderbirds in game three of the 2007 JUCO World Series. Both teams put on a show for the fans combining for 36 hits and 26 runs. Starting pitcher Will Harvil lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits. Three of the runs were unearned. The Mountain Lion defense made two errors in the game, and both proved to be costly. Early in the game, it appeared as if the Mountain Lions would finish on top, especially after Stephen McCray and J.C. Lyons each hit homeruns. The offense rallied for three runs in the eighth inning, making the score 14 – 12, but it was too little, too late. The Mountain Lions are now in the loser’s bracket and will face the loser of the Western Nevada v. Delgado game.

Game 2
YHC 12 - Delgado 9

The Mountain Lions will continue their quest for a national title in Grand Junction, Colorado as they defeated the Delgado Dolphins 12 – 9. The pitching staff, though not used to allowing nine runs in one game, managed to shut down the Dolphin offense long enough to win the game. Stephen McCray started the game, going 5 2/3 innings, while allowing six runs. Nick Terry picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of solid relief. McCray hit his second homerun in as many games, and Matt Hemingway and Mike Markakis each added two RBI’s to pace the Mountain Lions to their first win in the 2007 JUCO World Series. YHC will face Shelton State of Alabama in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 10am.

Game 3
Shelton State 6 - YHC 2

The Mountain Lion baseball team’s quest for a national title is now over. But even though the team fell short of its original goal, they accomplished something that no other Young Harris baseball team ever has, just by making it to the national tournament. For many, the team’s 0 – 7 start seems like years ago, and no one would have ever predicted a World Series appearance. But the team weathered the storm and finished 46 – 22 overall. The year brought the team many honors, including a GJCAA Championship, a NJCAA Region 17 Championship, and a NJCAA East Central District championship. All in all, the year can be considered a success. For now, the team will say goodbye to their sophomores, hang up their cleats and gloves, and wait for next year.
