Medlin to be a Gamecock

Medlin1   Grimes Medlin (Benson, NC) announced that he will be playing for Coach Ray Tanner and the University of South Carolina. Grimes will follow such Young Harris College alums like Kansas City Royals rookie Billy Buckner, and current Gamecock Jay Brown to Columbia. Coach Ray Tanner has turned the University of South Carolina into a national power. They have made three College World Series appearances in the past five years, and have been in the NCAA Super Regionals every year since 2000, collecting two Southeastern Conference Championships along the way.

The 6’4,” 220 pound southpaw went 5 – 3, with 3 saves and a 2.64 earned run average as a freshman. He fanned seventy-one batters in sixty-one innings last year. Grimes has looked just as impressive in this early fall, striking out twelve in just five innings of work.

"I am very excited for Grimes. He has worked very hard, in the classroom and on the baseball field, to turn himself into a SEC type player. I am glad he will have the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college baseball once he leaves Young Harris College." - Coach Robinson
