MOUNTAIN LIONS IMPROVE ON DAY TWO IN DAYTONA

The Young Harris Ladies golf team improved on their day one scores with a second day total of 356 at the NJCAA National Championships in Daytona Beach Florida. Young Harris was again led by the duo of Sarah Johns and Ashley Panter who shot identical scores of 84 in round two. They were followed by Sophomore Jessie Hodge with a 93, and then Kristin Taylor and Heather Dusch who shot 95 and 98 respectively. The Mountain Lions will hope to improve their scores and move up the ladder on Thursday which will be the final day of the championships.

 

LADY LIONS OPEN FIRST ROUND IN 8TH PLACE

The Lady Lions golf team opened the first round on play at the NJCAA National Championships with a teaam score of 361 to place 8th after day one.With winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour in the afternoon,  Young Harris was led by team player of the year Sarah Johns who shot a opening round 81. She was followed closely by Ashley Panter with a 85. Heather Dusch, Kristin Taylor and Jessie Hodge would all finish within a stroke of each other posting scores of 97,98, and 99 on day one.

 

LIONS WAIT OUT FLORIDA BRUSH FIRES

The lady lions golf teams first round at the NJCAA National Championships has been put on hold as wild fires have engulfed the central Florida area. Fires were as closeas 100 yards from the course which had to be cleared during the Sunday practice round. Mondays openinground was cancelled as the fires grew threw the night and smoke covered the Daytona area. Hopefully the fires can be put out so that play can resume Tuesday.

LADY MOUNTAIN LIONS HEADED TO NJCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Young Harris College Women's Golf Team will make their first trip to the NJCAA National Championships May 10th thru the 15th at the LPGA Legends course in Daytona Beach Florida. The Lions in only their second season as a program have held a national ranking this year and won three of the six tournaments they entered this season. The Lions are led by Freshman Region XVII winner Sarah Johns and her teammates Ashley Panter, Heather Dusch, Jessica Hodge, and Kristin Taylor. Play begins on the 12th with over 40 schools from across the nation being represented. We wish the girls well and hope for a fantastic finish in their first trip to the national tournament.

SARAH JOHNS AND LADY LIONS WIN REGION XVII TOURNAMENT

Sarah Johns shot a two day 170 to lead the lady Mountain Lions to a first place in the Region XVII tournament at Innsbruck Golf Course in Helen Georgia. The women's team led by led by Johns finished first thru fifth with teammates Ashley Panter, Heather Dusch, Jessica Hodge and Kristin Taylor following close behind. The mens team ended their season with a third place team finish with Sophomore Clifton Barton having another fine showing with a second place finish only four strokes off the leaderJim Chung. Barton was followed by his teammates Stanley Roberts, Dustin Chapman, Rylan Lanham, and Kyle Ketelsen. We congradulate all of our men and women on a fine season. The women's team will now move on to play in Daytona Beach on the weeknd of May 10th at the NJCAA National Golf Championships at the LPGA Legends course. We wish them well on their first trip to the national tournament.

YOUNG HARRIS MEN AND WOMEN WIN AT THE RIDGES

The Young Harris Men's and Women's golf teams capped off their regular season with a win as the host the the Young Harris College Invitational Tournament at The Ridges Resort.The field included teams from Toccoa Falls, Warner Southern, Andrew College, Truett McConnell, and Young Harris.  Leading the men's team was Clifton Barton. Barton was followed by Dustin Chapman,Kyle Ketelsen, Stanley Roberts, Rylan Lanham, , Caleb Kelley, and Kyle leBlanc. The women's event was won by Ashley Panter with a score of 167 followed closely by Sarah Johns, Heather Dusch, Kristin Taylor, Jessica Hodge, Brittany Sampson, and Anna Houser. The teams will now head to helen Georgia and the Innsbruck Golf Course for the Region XVII tournament on May 4th, 5th, and 6th.

MOUNTAIN LIONS FINISH STRONG AT ANDREW TOURNAMENT

The Mountain Lions golf teams continued their strong play this weekend at the Andrew College tournament at George T. Bagby State Park. The men's would come in  with a third place finish with a score of  637 , ten strokes off of Abraham Baldwin College. The mens team was led by Sophomre Clifton Barton who would finish in a tie for second place with a 148 only three strokes behind the winner. The women's team would continue to show well with a first place finish led by Freshman Sarah Johns who shot a 164. The women's team would finish first thru fourth in the overall standings. Sarah was followed by Ashley Panter, Heather Dusch, and Kristin Taylor. The Mountain Lions will now finish the regular season with their own host tournament at The Ridges Resort and Club, followed by the Region XVII Tournament in Helen Georiga on the weekend of May 4th,5th, 6th.

 

LADY LIONS PLACE THIRD AT "THE CREEK"

The Lady Mountain Lions followed up their fine finish at The Orchard, with another great performance at The Creek at Hard Labor. Ashley Panter led the way tied for 9th overall with a 171. She was followed in thirteenth place by Sarah Johns with a 180. Kristin Taylor, Brittany Sampson, and heather Dusch rounded out the team with a fine finish. On the men's side, Clifton Barton and Rylan Lanham shot identical 157's to lead the Lions men's team to a 8th place finish. Clifton and Rylan were joined by Caleb Kelly, Stanley Roberts, Dustin Chapman, and Kyle Leblanc. The men's and women's teams will be in action next at the Andrew College Invitational at George T. Bagby State Park.

MOUNTAIN LIONS HAVE STRONG SHOWING AT THE ORCHARD

The Mountain Lions Golf Team had a strong showing at The Orchard Invitational to start their spring break trip.The women's team finished second with a score of 340, lead by Sarah Johns score of 82. She waas followed by Ashley Panter and Kristin Taylor who shot identical 85's. The men's team in fith place with a team score of 331 led by sophomore Clifton Barton who shot a 76. He was followed by Caleb kelly and dustin Chapman who each shot 78.The men's and women's team will be in action this weekend at "The Creek at Hard Labor." for the Piedmont Spring Invitational in Rutledge Georgia.


LIONS START SEASON IN ALABAMA

The men's and womens golf team began their season fighting not only the competition, but also mother nature. Strong winds blowing over twenty miles per hour hapered play at the Spring Hill College Invitational in Alabama. The mens team battled to an 8th place finish out fo 13 teams with a team score of 652. The womens team fared a little better with a fifth place finish to start their 2008 season. Playing against NAIA, Division III, and Division II schools, this was a good experience for the team and a great way to prepare for the NJCAA Region XVII tournament at the end of the season. The two teams will be in action again at "The Orchard Sring Invitational". hosted by Piedmont College during spring break.
