LIONS GOLF FINISH STRONG AT REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Young Harris College men's and women's golf team had a fine showing at the GJCAA Region 17 Championships to finish their innaugural season. The men's team led by freshman Rylan Lanham and Clifton Barton finished the weekend tied for third place.The women's team was led by freshman Jessica Hodge. Jessica along with teammates Brittany Sampson and Kacey Heard were able to secure the victory for the Lions.Overall the Lions finished the season on a high note and look forward to a very strong showing during the 2008 season.

SARAH JOHNS TO BECOME MOUNTAIN LION

Forsyth Georgia's Sarah Johns has signed a letter of intent to play golf for the lady Mountain Lions during the 2008 season. Sarah has been the number one golf for Coach Brent Thornton at Central High School. Sarah was the City Champion for 2005-2006, finished 4th in the 2005-2006 Regional Championships and has been playing in the Georgia PGA under the direction of her instructor Mike Rudd as she prepares for this final High School season. Sarah is the daughter of Nancy and jack Johns of Forsyth Georgia.

 

FANNIN COUNTYS ASHLEY PANTER SIGNS WITH MOUNTAIN LIONS GOLF

Fannin County High School senior Ashley Panter has signed a letter in intent to play golf for the Lady Mountain Lions during the 2008 season. Ashley is the number one golfer for Fannin County High school under the direction of Coach Pete Manuel. Ashley was the Atlanta Junior Golf Association "Player of the year" in 2003 & 2004, Tri-County Junior Golf Association "Player of the year" in 2004, "Club Champion" at Copper Basin Golf Club in 2003 & 2004, F.C.H.S. Lady Rebel "Low Medalist" in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, AAA Region 7 "Runner-Up" in 2006, AA Region 6 "Runner-Up" in 2007, 9th in AA State golf tournament in 2007. Ashley plans on a major in graphic design. Ashley is the daughter of Angela and Michael Panter of Blue Ridge Georgia.

 

KRISTIN TAYLOR SIGNS WITH YOUNG HARRIS WOMEN'S GOLF

3/16/07: Kristin Taylor of Rome Georgia is the newest addition to the 2007-2008 Lady Mountain Lions Golf Team. Kristin plays for Cass high School. Kristin also played basketball,soccer and softball, where she was a All County and Region selection. Kristin was class president for three years, and Homecoming queen her senior year. She is a member of FCA, DECA, FBLA, and Colonels for Christ. In tournament golf, Kristin has played in the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour, and also played in the AGJT Tournament of Champions.Kristin was the Rome Junior Golf Tour Champion, and the Horseleg Junior Club Champion.She is under the instruction of Scott Hamilton of the Catersville Country Club. Kristin is the daughter of Danny and Darla Williams,and Mark and Tracy Taylor of Rome Georgia.

 

YOUNG HARRIS SIGNS HEATHER DUSCH

3/15/07: Heather Dusch from Cumming Georgia has signed a letter intent to play golf for the Lady Mountain Lions for the 2007-2008 season. Heather played last season for the AAAA Region Champions Forseyth Central Team under the direction of Coach Marlo Miranda. Heather finished ninth in the AAAA state Championship as a Junior. Heather also ran Track and played Varsity Basketball for Forseyth Central.Heather is Coached by Instructor Tom Ness during the offseason in preparation for the transition to Young Harris College. Heather was in Who's Who Amoung American High School Students, and will be taking courses in Business Management in the fall. Heather is the daughter of Barbara and Jim Dusch of Cumming Georgia.

 

LIONS TEE IT UP AT SPRING FLING

03/14/07: The men's and women's team had a strong showing this weekend at the University of Mobile's Spring fling tournament. The men were lead by Tyler Williams who shot a low of 73 to finish just outside the top three overall. The women were lead by Jessie Hodge who shot 80 each day and finished fourth overall. Both teams played very well and now look forward to this weekends tournament at Piedmont college in Rutledge Georgia, on the 18th. 

LADY LIONS BATTLE AT KINDERLOU

2/28/07 The women's golf team had their second tournament of the season at the Thomas University Invitational at Kinderlou. The team was lead by Freshman Jessie Hodge and Jackie Walker. Sophomore Kari Webb, and Freshman Kacey Heard and Brittany Sampson also posted some of their best scores of the season. The Team played well enough to finish the tournament in fourth place overall. The team will travel next to Mobile Alabama to play in the University of Mobile Spring Fling on the 12th and 13th. 

 

YOUNG HARRIS GOLF PLAY IN THE FLORIDA SUN

1/22/07 The Young Harris Men's and Women's Golf Team took their swings at the Warner Southern Invitational in Lake Wales Florida. The men's team was lead by Clifton Barton, while the women's team was lead by Jessie Hodge. The teams played well in their first outing of the season and now begin to prepare for their next events. The women play next in Valdosta at Thomas University, while the men will compete next over Spring Break at the University of Mobile's Spring Fling.  

 

YOUNG HARRIS GOLF COMPETES AT HARD LABOR CREEK

9/19/06 The Young Harris Men's and Women's golf team started the inaugural season in fine fashion as they competed at the Piedmont Fall Invitational at Hard Labor Creek. The men's B-team was tied for third after day one, with Rylan Lanham finishing the tournament tied for second overall after day two of the event. The Women's team also performed well lead by Hiram’s Jackie Walker. This was a fantastic start for both teams, and will help them to prepare now for their next tournaments to come. The Men's team plays next at The Orchard Piedmont Invitational on Tuesday the 26th. Both the Men's and women's team will play again the following Sunday the 30th at the Georgia Southwestern Fall Hurricane Classic.  

 

JESSICA HODGE SIGN'S WITH YOUNG HARRIS COLLEGE WOMEN'S GOLF

7/18/06:Jessie Hodge, 2006 Honor graduate of Coffee High School in Douglas Georgia, has joined the Young Harris Ladies' Golf Team.
Jessie led Coffee High to the State Tournament in Jekyll Island with her second lowest score at region competition in Moultrie. Jessie was named a Scholar Athlete for Coffee High and is a member of the National Honor Society. Additional leadership positions include Student Council officer, Key Club, Journalism Team,
Editor of Annual Staff, Y-Club secretary, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Jessie is a member of Eastside Baptist Church where she was a Twenty-Four Seven Youth Group Leader. Jessie is the daughter of Jimmy and Lisa Hodge of Douglas, Georgia.

 

FUTURE YOUNG HARRIS GOLFERS END HIGH SCHOOL CAREER AT STATE FINALS

5/24/06 Young Harris College Golf was well represented at the 2006 Georgia and North Carolina State Golf finals. Five future players led by Tyler Williams of David Emanuel Academy, all had strong showings in their Regional play and were able to compete for their respective State Golf titles. Tyler Williams of David Emanuel Academy shot a 72 to win the Class A State Title for Georgia Independent Schools. Jackie Walker of Hiram High School played in the Class 4A Finals. Clifton Barton of White County High School played for the Class 3A State Final, while Dustin Chapman of Jefferson High School played for the Class A State title. On the North Carolina Side, Rylan Lanham of Murphy High School played in his State final coming out of the Smokey Mountain Conference. We congradulate all of our fine incoming freshman who were able to win their respective Region Titles. They all were able to make an impact on their high school teams, and will bring that experience and excitement to the Young Harris Golf teams during their first and most important season as Mountain Lions.

 

CLIFTON BARTON SIGNS WITH YOUNG HARRIS GOLF

3/24/06 Clifton Barton, a senior at White County High School, has signed a letter of intent to play golf for Young Harris College during the 2006-2007 inaugural season. Clifton, a four year starter and 2005 low medalist for White County High School, was named Most Improved Player in 2004. Clifton was also a qualifier for the GSGA Junior Sectional Challenge Match. Clifton is the son of Harry and Patricia Barton of Cleveland, Georgia. He plans to major in Engineering and Business Management.

 

THOMAS ARP SIGNS WITH YOUNG HARRIS GOLF

3/23/06 Thomas Arp of Blue Ridge, Georgia, has signed a letter of intent to play for Young Harris College during the inaugural 2006-2007 season. Thomas, currently a freshman at Barry College, is expected to make a strong contribution to the team. He is a four year Honor Roll and National Honor Society member and was also named to the Atlanta Junior Golf Association's All Academic Team. Thomas is a former Copper Basin Golf Course Club champion and has played in many junior golf events across the south. Thomas is the son of Morgan and Mary Arp of Blue Ridge, Georgia.

 

CHRISTOPHER CHAPMAN SIGNS WITH YOUNG HARRIS COLLEGE

Christopher Dustin Chapman of Jefferson, Georgia, has signed a letter of intent to play golf for Young Harris College during their inaugural 2006-2007 season. Chapman, a four year starter and Most Valuable Player during his sophomore and junior seasons, played golf for Coach Tom Parker at Jefferson High School. He will help to make the Mountain Lions a strong team immediately. Dustin has played in many Junior golf tournaments and was the former Georgia State Golf Association NE District points winner. Dustin is the son of Chris and Kim Chapman of Jefferson, Georgia.

 

KYLE KETELSEN SIGNS WITH YOUNG HARRIS COLLEGE

Kyle Ketelsen, a senior at Newnan High School, has signed a letter of intent to become a part of the inaugural 2006-2007 Young Harris College Men's Golf Team. Kyle, a four year starter for Newnan High School, has played in many Junior events and won the area Junior Club Championship. Kyle is a former Eagle Scout, National Honor Society member and winner of the Georgia Merit Scholarship. Kyle is the son of Craig and Debbie Ketelsen of Newnan, Georgia.

 

Rylan Lanham Leads Young Harris College Golf Into Inaugural Season

Murphy, North Carolina’s Rylan Lanham has signed a letter of intent to become the first signee of the new Young Harris College Men’s Golf Team for the 2006-2007 inaugural season. Lanham, a senior at Murphy High School, is a three time letterman and region qualifier. Rylan also qualified for the North Carolina State tournament as a sophomore and as a junior. An academic Honor Roll student, Rylan is a Beta Member who was awarded Western Carolina’s Legislatures School for Youth Leadership Development Scholarship. Rylan is active in volunteer work at the Methodist Church of Murphy and the Tweeter Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament. Rylan plans to major in Business Management/Golf Course Management while at Young Harris College. Rylan joins four other Georgia area seniors who have previously committed to the new Young Harris College Golf team for the 2006 – 2007 Season.

 

YOUNG HARRIS COLLEGE GOLF TEAM TO BEGIN PLAY FALL 2006

 Men’s and women’s golf will be added to the intercollegiate sports program at Young Harris College with competitive play beginning in August of 2006. Coach Danny Rubino, Golf Administrator, will serve as coordinator for all aspects of the program and can be reached at (706) 379-5025 or at drubino@yhc.edu.

Brett Beazley, the Director of Golf at The Ridges Resort & Club, will serve as the Teaching Pro for the program. The Ridges Resort & Club has partnered with Young Harris College and will be the home course. Academic and Athletic scholarships will be available for both men’s and women’s teams for those who qualify.
