(January 30, 2010) -- Victoria Sink pitched a complete game and Tara Mullinax drove in the game-winning run in the sixth inning as Young Harris defeated Broward 2-1 in the first game second day of the International Women's Fastpitch Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla., Saturday and gave head coach Eric Geldart his 500th career collegiate coaching victory. Softball: YHC 12, Jamaica 0; Puerto Rico Red 10, YHC 4 (8 innings)
(January 29, 2010) -- Victoria Sink and Kelly Wright combined to throw a perfect game as Young Harris opened the 2010 season by defeating Jamaica 12-0 in the first game of the International Fastpitch Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla., Friday. Softball: YHC Opens 2010 Season Friday in Kissimmee, Fla.
(January 25, 2010) -- Young Harris College’s softball team will open the 2010 season this Friday at the International Women’s Fastpitch Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. The Mountain Lions, playing their final season as a junior college program, will compete against teams from around the globe, as well as other junior college teams from the Southeastern region of the United States. (September 25, 2009) -- Young Harris College's softball scrimmages at the Mars Hill Classic in Mars Hill, N.C., have been canceled due to a forecast calling for heavy rain. The Mountain Lions' next scrimmage is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27 at South Carolina-Upstate.
Softball: Scrimmage at Georgia Tech Canceled
(September 18, 2009) -- Young Harris College's softball scrimmage scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 at Georgia Tech has been canceled, according to YHC coach Eric Geldart. No makeup date has been scheduled. The Mountain Lions' next scheduled scrimmage is Sept. 26 at the Mars Hill Classic in Mars Hill, N.C.

DAVIDSON AND WOOLF EARN 2ND TEAM ALL CONFERENCE
05/04/09:Young Harris College freshman outfielder Chelsea Davidson of Ringold Georgia and catcher Sam Woolf of Woodstock Georgia earned Region XVII 2nd Team All Conference honors for the season. Davidson who batted .333 in regular season and led the team at .380 in conference play was stellar in the outfield having only 2 errors all seaon. Woolf hit .295 for the regular season and .340 right behind Davidson in Conference play, was strong playing both 1st base and handling most of the innings behind the dish for the Lions.We congradulate both young ladies on a fine freshman season and look forward to more great play from them during their sophomore season to come.
LIONS MAKE SEMIFINALS IN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
05/03/09: The Young Harris Mountain Lions softball season came to an end thisweekend with a strong fourth place finish at the Region XVII tournament in Covington Georgia. The Lions who started in the six slot in the tournament opened the weekend with a 8-0 loss to eventual finalist Middle Georgia College. Whitney Robinson took the opening round loss as the Lions failed to push any runs across the plate. Facing elimination the Lions bounced back with a fine performance by Rikki Powers and some clutch late inning hits to beat and knock out Abraham Baldwin College 2-1. Next up was a return match with Middle Georgia College in which Whitney Robinson would pitch a fine four hit game, but the lions would fall short by the score of 2-1 ending was has been a fine season for YHC. The lions end up 25-22 on the year overall and played some of the nations best along the way. The Lions would also like to congradulate Darton College on a fine run through the Region playoffs and wish them well as they represent Region XVII in the NJCAA National Championships later this month.
MOUNTAIN LIONS PLAY FIVE IN FIVE DAYS TO MAKE TOURNEY
4/28/09: The Mountain Lions(24-20) had their work cut out for them needing at least four wins in their final five series to make the conference tournament this season. In the first set vs. Middle Georgia College the Lions were able to pull out the sweep at home. MGC came in tied for the conference lead but the Lions were able to shut down the potent Middle Georgia Offense giving up only two hits in each game. Rikki Powers(4-2) would go eight innings and pick up the 1-0 win. Tara Mullinax would go 2-4 with the game winning RBI. In game two, Whitney Robinson (12-8) would go seven innings and take the victory and Tara Mullinax would again go 2-3 with an RBI to win the game. On day two the lions would face Abraham Baldwin College and earn a split in their series. Rikki Powers and Whitney Robinson would combine for eleven innings and Jessica Swancey would go 3-5 in the 6-4 victory. In game two, ABAC would put up two runs early and add a home run to seal the 4-0 win and the split of the series. Day three saw the Lions needing to win at least one game of the series to make the playoffs. In game one Truetts Meghan Fulcher threw a seven inning six hitter to give TMC the 3-2 win over Whitney Robinson(12-9) and the Lions. IN game two the Lions behind Rikki Powers(6-2) seven inning five hit performance would pull away late in the game putting up seven runs in the seventh inning for the 10-2 split earning the Lady Lions a spot in the Conference Championship. Day four saw the Lions travel to GPC to play the Jaguars in Covington. In game one Caitlin Duvall(6-6) would pitch five innings and give up 13 hits in a 11-0 loss. The Lions only managed one hit for the game. In game to the Lions would jump out to an early 2-0 lead only to give that up and more on hits and errors against Whitney Robinson and Rikki Powers as the Lions would loose 8-4 in game two. Whitney Robinson and Brittany Allen would have five of the teams six hits, but the team would also have six errors in the loss. Day five of five would be the final home game of the season as the Lions would host Darton College. In game one the Lions would take the early 1-0 lead only to see Darton come right back and tie the game. Darton would add four runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory over Whitney Robinson(12-11) and the Lions. In game two Rikki Powers (6-3)would give up a home run in the first and Darton would add two insurance runs late to earn the 3-0 win and clinch first place in the conference regular season records. YHC wouls finish 24-20 overall and 11-9 in the conference, for sixth place in the standings. The Mountain Lions have earned another birth in the state playoffs which begin Friday May the 1st at Georgia Perimeter College field in Covington Georgia. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for noon time with the first game for Young Harris College to be played at 4:00p.m. vs. MIddle Georgia College. We hope everyone will come out to see a great tournament this weekend.
YHC SOFTBALL REVISED SCHEDULE
4/22/09:The Lady Lions softball team will begin their final five games this weekend and continue for five straight days to rap up the 2009 Conference schedule. The team will wind up the 2009 regular season on the following weekend with a home game on Friday the 24th vs. Middle Georgia College starting at 2:00 p.m and a final home game on Saturday the 25th against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College beginning at noon. LIONS DROP TWO TO CHATTANOOGA STATE
4/21/09: YHC softball (20-14) droped two games Tuesday to number 1 ranked Chattanooga State 10-0 and 8-0. In game one CSCC would jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings and cruise to the 10-0 victory. Whitney Robinson(11-8) would give up a home run and six earned runs in the loss. Chattanooga pitching would strike out 13 and only allow three baserunners. In game two it was much of the same as 11 Lions would strike out and only 3 hits would be recorded for the Lions. Rikki Powers(3-2) would take the loss. The Lions now begin a five game stretch to finish their season, with home games Friday vs. Middle Georgia and Saturday against Abraham Baldwin College.
YHC TO PLAY NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE NATION TUESDAY
4/20/09: Young Harris College Softball will travel Tuesday to Chattanooga Tennessee to play the number one ranked team in the nation Chatanooga State College. Game times are scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00p.m. Games from this last weekend that were not played against Georgia Perimeter College and Darton College will be rescheduled for next week. Game times and dates to be announced soon.
YOUNG HARRIS SOFTBALL UPDATED SCHEDULE
4/14/09: Young Harris College softball will resume games this week beginning with a double header on Tuesday the 14th at NCAA Division III power Emory University in Atlanta.Game time is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday the 18th the Lions will face conference rival Georgia Perimeter College at home at E.D. Rivers Field with game times scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. The Lions will be back in action again Sunday the 19th at home vs. Darton College. Those games are also scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. The team will wind up their 2009 regular season on the following weekend with a home game on Friday the 24th vs. Middle Georgia College starting at 2:00 p.m and a final home game on Saturday the 25th against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College beginning at noon. FORMER PLAYER NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
HIGH POINT, N.C.- Limestone College's Madison Carpenter (Anderson, S.C.) was named Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week, as released by the league office on Tuesday. Carpenter turned out three wins and two saves last week for Limestone. Carpenter posted a .91 ERA for the week to go along with 13 strikeouts. She pitched 6 2/3 innings in game one versus Lander on April 3 and allowed no earned runs on five hits in the Saints' 2-1 victory. She struck-out a week-high five batters in game two against the Bearcats as she only allowed three hits in 4 2/3 inning of work. Carpenter picked up the saves in Limestone's sweep against Pfeiffer on Saturday. She gave up one hit in game one and no earned runs as the Saints won 7-5. She went three innings in game two, scattered two hits and allowed no runs in the 3-1 victory. She picked up her third win of the week in game two against Brevard on Sunday. Carpenter pitched the complete game (seven innings) as she allowed eight hits, one earned run, and struck out three.
LIONS SPLIT CONFERENCE GAMES WITH GMC
4/6/09: The YHC Softball Team split a double header with Georgia Military College on the second leg on their most recent conference road trip. The Lions (20-12) behind Whitney Robinson (11-7) would drop game one 5-9 after giving up six runs in the second inning. The Lions would battle back behind the bats of Jessica Swancy and Tara Mullinax who each had two hits in the loss. In game two the Lions would return the favor jumping out to an early lead behing the pitching of Freshman Rikki Powers. Powers(3-1) would throw five innings of no hit ball before GMC would stage a sixth inning rally and put five runs up on the board. With the help of Caitlin Duvall and Whitney Robinson, the Lions would shut down the rally and win the game 8-5 to earn the conference split. Jennifer Watford, Chelsea Davidson and Sam Woolf each put up three hits in the game with Jamey Chapman, Brittany Allen, and Whitney Robinson each having two hits in the victory. The Lions are now 7-3 in conference play heading into the final three weeks of the season. The Lions will be in action next weekend as they continue conference play. YOUNG HARRIS SWEEPS GORDON COLLEGE
4/5/09: The Lady Mountain Lions(19-11) began their latest road trip with two conference wins over host Gordon College friday. In game one Whitney Robinson (11-6) would go nine innings before securing a 7-6 victory. Jamey Chapman would lead the 12 hit offensive attack going 3-5 and scoring twice. Chapman and Chelsea Davidson would each score in the ninth inning to secure the win. In game two, Rikki Powers (2-1) with the backing of Catlin Duvall (save) would combine on a six hit game for the 5-2 victory.. Sam Woolf would go 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored in the sweep for the Lions. YHC now moves on to GMC on Saturday for the second half of the two game conference set. Game time is set for noon.
WEEKEND CONFERENCE GAME CHANGES ANNOUNCED
4/1/09: Due to rainouts and weather problems across the state, the Mountain Lions will now play Gordon College on Friday at 4:00 P.M. in a double header in Barnsville Georgia. The Lions will then travel to Milledgeville on Saturday morning for a double header with Georgia Military College starting at noon.
PITCHING LEADS THE WAY IN SWEEP OF ANDREW COLLEGE
4/01/09: The Lady Mountain Lions swept visiting Andrew College in a double header behind two great pitching performances of Sophomore Whitney Robinson and Freshman Caitlin Duvall. In game one the lions would jump out to a early 4-0 lead on a Whitney Robinson Grand slam. Robinson (10-6) would pitch four shutout innings and only give up four hits to win 7-1. Chelsea Davidson would go 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored to help the lions to the win. In game two Freshman Caitlin Duvall ( 6-4) would give up only three hits and one run as the lions would put up eleven hits and win the game 9-1 for Duvall. Sam Woolf, Jamey Chapman, Kacie Shields, and Jennifer watford would all supply multiple hits for the victory. The Lions ( 17-11) will now play conference games with Gordon College and Geogia Military College this weekend.
GAMES WITH ANDREW COLLEGE AND ABAC TO BE RESCEDULED
3/26/09: Saturday's game with Andrew College will be rescheduled to next Tuesday the 31st at 2:00 p.m. due to the weather. The Sunday games with Abraham Baldwin College are to be rescheduled for April the 17th at E.D. Rivers Field. Start times to be announced.
MOUNTAIN LIONS SPLIT WITH SOUTH GEORIGA COLLEGE
3/23/09: The Lady Lions earned a hard faught split with conference foe South Georgia College on Sunday at E.D. Rivers Field. The Lions (15-11) opened up game one with an early lead and then held off a late innings comeback by SGC to win 7-5. sam Woolf would go 2 for 2 and Whitney Robinson (9-5) would gain the victory. In game two, the Lions would lead the game all the way to the seventh inning but could not close out the game and would loose by giving up four runs in the seventh to fall to a 5-7 score. Rikki Powers and Caitlin Duvall would Pitch the first six innings and then turn the game over to Whitney Robinson (9-6) who would take the loss for the Lions. Young Harris will be back in action again on the 28th as they face Andrew College at home at E.D. Rivers Field. game time is 1:00 P.M
LIONS BACK IN ACTION WITH FIRST CONFERENCE GAMES
3/20/09: Young Harris College began the 2009 conference season with a home opening split with Coastal Georgia College. The Lions (14-10) would take an early lead 2-0 for the first three innings of game one before Coastal would storm back and score six runs in the last four innings for the win. Whitney Robinson ( 8-5) would take the loss while going 2 for 2 at the plate with a homerun and a double in her two at bats. In game two the Lions would jump out to a 4-1 lead only to see Coastal Georgia come back and take control late in the game. The lions would score late and take the game to extra inning where they would prevail on a sacrifice fly from Sam Woolf that would allow Chelsea Davidson to score the winning run. Rkki Powers would start the game and then Caitlin Duvall would come in to take the lions through the middle innings. Whitney Robinson (9-5) would finish the game for the win. The Lions will be back on the field Sunday the 22nd against the defending conference champions South Georgia College. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m
YOUNG HARRIS TRAVELS TO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FOR THE BREAK
3/15/09: The Young Harris Lady Mountain Lions Softball Team traveled to the Dominican Republic on a good will trip to help spread the word about softball across the carribean. The Lions played for three nights in three different towns across the country against various members of the Dominican National and Junior National teams. Each night crowds of more than 500 including many local and national officials showed up to watch some very exciting games. The Lions played in towns where softball and baseball is the main sport and the crowds were very excited to see many close games. The team was able to travel to many wonderful towns and meet make many new life long friends along the journey. we are very greatful to the Dominican Republic Softball Federation and to all the people in all the towns who came out to support us and the game of softball. This was a fantastic experience to all the players and coaches of Young Harris Colllege.
LIONS SEEING SILVER IN ALABAMA
3/10/09: The lions softball team traveled to Hanceville Alabama to face some of the best teams in the nation, as twenty three of the of the best showed up for the Wallace State Invitational. The lions(13-9) would start off slowly losing 0-5 to Indian Hills CC from Iowa. Whitney Robinson ( 7-3) would take the loss. Robinson ( 7-4) would bounce back and pitch well in the later day game only to loose in extra innings 6-8 to Volunteer State CC. The lions had bases loaded in the tie breaker but could not push the winning run across the plate. Young Harris would come back and shine in games three and four of the thournament. In game three the Lions would face highly touted Gadsen State and pull out the victory 6-3 with Emily Wilson going 2-2 with a run scored and Caitlin Duvall ( 4-2) picking up the victory. In game four Whitney Robinson ( 8-4) would come back strong and pull out a 4-0 shutout of long time foe Walters State CC. Jennifer Watford would go 3 for 4 to spark the offense in the Lions win. The win would send The Lady Lions into the semi-finals of the Silver bracket of the tournament to Face Jefferson Davis College. The Lions would put up 8 hits but only score one run and loose 1-2 on an error to finnish the tournament. Caitlin Duvall and Rikki Powers would pitch with Duvall (4-3) taking the loss for the lions. Young Harris will now fly to the Dominican Republic to play exibition games with the National team for the remainder of their spring break. The Lady Lions will return to action next at home on Marxh the 20th against conference foe Coastal Georgia College.

2/26/09: Young Harris Softball(11-6) earned two victories with a double header sweep of visiting Hiawassee College. In the first game Whitney Robinson(7-2) took a no hitter into the fifth inning before allowing four hits in a 10-2 win. Young Harris put up six runs in the first inning capped off by Amanda McElheney's first college home run. IN game two Caitlin Duvall( 3-2) would take aa one hitter into the fifth inning before securing the 7-3 win. Brittany McDade would go 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored to help the Lions gains their eleveth win of the year. The Lions will now travel on Saturday to Georgia Perimeter College for a four team tournament to include Spartanburg Methodist and Walters State College.

LADY LIONS SWEEP ROANE STATE AT HOME
2/24/09: The Lady Lions (9-6) swept a double header Tuesday against Roane State at E.D. Rivers Field. Whitney Robinson (6-2) would start game one and with the help of Amanda McElheney and Emily wilson who each had multiple hits the Lions would pull away to a 10-0 victory. In game two, the Lions behind the pitching of Caitlin Duvall who would give up only two hits and two runs on the day for a 10-2 victory. Jessica Swancey went 3 for 3 and her teammmates added 10 more hits for the win. The Lions will play at home again on Thursday against Hiawassee College with the first pitch at 2:00p.m.
MOUNTAIN LIONS BATTLE AT RINGOR INVITATIONAL
2/21/09: The Moutain Lions softball team (7-6) won three of five games while battling some of the best teams in the south at the Ringor Invitational in Aiken South Carolina.On Friday the Lions began the tournament with a 9-1 win over southeastern Community College from south Carolina. Caitlin Duvall (1-2) would pitch a no Hitter with 4 strikeouts for her first collegiate victory. The Lions would pound out 10 hits for the victory,with Jamie Chapman and Whitney Robinson each going 3 for 4 and Chapman getting her first college Home run. In Game two the Lions would face conference foe Georgia Military. After getting down early 4-0 the Lions would battle back and break the game open in the bottom of the 6th inning putting up 5 runs and taking the lead on Jennifer watfords 3-4 performance and game winning go ahead single. Whitney Robinson (4-1) Gained the victory. On Saturday game three would see the Lions face Spartanburg Methodist College. The Lions could only muster 1 hit as SMC would put up 4 early runs and cruise to a 7-0 victory. Whitney Robinson(4-2) would pitch 3-2/3 innings and take the loss. In the night game Robinson (5-2) would come back with a strong performance on the mound as the Lady Lions would put up 10 hits to beat South Georgia College 11-3. Robinson would only give up six hits in the victory, and Jennifer Watford would again go 3-4 on the night for the victory. Sunday would bring elimination day and a game with the defending National Champion Wallace Hanceville State College. With winds gusting above 30 miles per hour and temperatures in the 30's the Lions had a long day as Wallace Hanceville jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on multiple hits and errors behind Lions starter Caitlin Duvall. The Lions would only manage 2 hits and could not stop the bats of WHSC in a 12-0 rout of the Lions. Caitlin Duvall (1-3) would take the loss. The Lions will now come home for the first of two double headers starting on Tuesday at 2:00pm agains Roane State and Thursday at 2:00pm against Hiwassee College.
LADY LIONS AT HOME WITH CLEVELAND STATE
2/17/09: Young Harris Softball opened the 2009 home games with a split with visiting Cleveland State Community College. Hot bats from CSCC and six errors in the game would send Whitney Robinson(2-1) and the Lions(3-4) down to defeat in game one with a score of 2-9. Game two would be an old fashion slugfest as the Lions behind Caitlin Duvall would jump out to an early lead only to see CSCC hit two three run blast and take the lead late in the game. Behind a late Homerun from Tara Mullinax in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lions would rally with multiple base hits from the team and a seventh inning two out clutch single by Jennifer watford to end the game with a spectacular 8-7 victory for the lions. Whitney Robinson(3-1) would pick up the win in relief. The Mountain Lions (4-4) will now move on this weekend to the Ringor Invitational on Friday hosted by South Carolina Aiken-Tech. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4:00pm Friday.
WALLACE DOTHAN TOURNAMENT A WASH
2/14/09: Storms and heavy rains have cancelled the tournament weekend in Dothan Alabama. The Lions will return home next Tuesday the 17th for their 2009 home opener against Cleveland State with the games scheduled to start at 2:00pm at E.D. Rivers field.
MOUNTAIN LIONS BEGIN 2009 SEASON IN FLORIDA
2/7/09: The 2009 season began for the mountain lions with a six game trip to Osceola Florida. The Lady Lions would come back from the trip with a record of 3 wins and 3 losses against four International teams and two Junior Colleges. Young Harris would start the season with a victory over the Puerto Rican National Red team 2-0. Sophomore Whitney Robinson (1-0) with eight strikeouts in the game would pick up the win. Freshman Jennifer Watford, Brittany McDade and Sam Woolf would each contribute clutch hits in the the game for the win. In game two, the Lions would drop a close game the the Puerto Rico Blue Junior National team 2-4. Late inning errors would cost freshman Caitlin Duvall (0-1) a chance at her first win of the season. In the night game, the Lions would drop another game to the Puerto Rican Grey Select team 5-8. Despite a 3 for 3 night by Brittany McDade and a nine strike out performance from Rikki Powers, the Lions would fall to 1-2 on the season. Saturday saw a great performance all around by the Lions who faced former Assistant Coach Brian Staubly and Broward College. The Lions with a strong pitching performance by Rikki Powers(1-1) saw the Lions pick up the 7-3 victory. Caitlin Duvall picked up her first save of the season. The Lions would then move on to face Juncos Valencians Select from Puerto Rico. Whitney Robinson (2-0) was able to pick up the 4-1 win with the help of Jamie Chapman, Sam Woolf, and Brittany Allen who all went 2 for 3 on the day. This would move Young Harris into the semi finals where they would face conference foe Georgia Perimeter College. GPC had a strong day at the plate putting up five runs in the first three innings on their way to a 11-1 rout of the Lions. Young Harris would put runners on base all day, but base running mistakes and fielding errors combined with the big bats of GPC would hand Caitlin Duvall(0-2) and the Mountain Lions the loss and signal the end of their tournament weekend. The Lady Lions will now move on to Dothan Alabama next weekend for the Wallace Dothan Invitational tournament.

MOUNTAIN LIONS MOVING ON
The 2008 season ended for the Lady Lions but many players will now continue their careers at other institutions over the coming seasons. Sophomores Sarah Applegarth, Amanda Schumacher, Katerina teserakova, and Amanda brooks will all move on for the 2009 season to play or coach at another University. Sarah Applegarth a center fielder for the lions from Gainsville Georgia will move on to Dvision II Saint Andrews College in North Carolina. Amanda Schumacher a catcher from Greenville S.C. will also being playing in Dvision II at Newberry College. Amanda Brooks who played infield and outfield for the lions from Buford Georgia will move on to Division I Appalachian State University. Katerina Teserakova a pitcher from the Czech Republic National team will facce a new challenge as she moves on to become the strength Coach for womens sports at NAIA power Shorter College of Rome Georgia. We wish all of these fine young ladies continued success as they move on to their new institutions for the upcoming 2009 season.

Jaguars open new stadium with wins over Mountain Lions.
4/22/08: The Mountain Lions Softball team(25-24) opened thier last road trip of the season with a double header loss to Georgia Perimeter College. In front of a packed grandstand for the opening of the new GPC softball - baseball complex, the Lions dropped game one 4-3 and game two 9-1. The Lions would then travel to South Georgia College where they would again drop both halves of the double header to SGC by the scores of 4-3 and 5-4. In each game the Lions had the lead in the sixth or seventh inning only to see SGC come back and pull out the victory. For the first time in the fastpitch history of the program, the team will not make the Region Tournament. We wish all of our conference teams well and hope to be well represented at the national tournament. Lady Lions go one and three on the weekend
4/20/08: The Lady Mountain Lions(25-20) dropped three of four to conference opponents Middle Georgia College and Georgia Military College this week. The Lions played two close games with MGC Losing game one 6-5 after being down early 5-0 in the game. In game two the Lions again lost, this time in extra innings by the score of 6-5. Whitney Robinson Hit two home runs on the day to provide most of the offense for the Lions. The next day saw the Lions in a Home game vs. Georgia Military College. Whitney Robinson would hit a triple in game one with the Lions taking the victory 6-2. In game two, sarah applegarth would also have a triple, but the Lions would come up on the short end loosing 5-3. The Lady Lions will now go on their final road trip of the season with games this weekend vs. Georgia Perimeter College and South Georgia College.
Mountain Lions drop four on road trip
4/14/08: The Lady Mountain Lions dropped four of six conference games over the weekend on the first of two important road trips this season. The Lions ( 24-17) won the first series at Andrew College on Friday by the scores of 13-0 and 8-2. On Saturday the Lions dropped a close game by the score of 4-1 in game one vs. ABAC, then dropped game two 5-0. The Lions took their 5-5 conference record into Albany Georgia on Sunday to face Darton College. Young Harris would jump out to an early 1-0 lead before making four costly errors in the fourth inning to loose game one 4-2. In game two Darton held the Lions to one hit and no runs to win the game 2-0. The Lions (5-7) in conference play, continue this week with a road game vs. Middle Georgia College on Tuesday and a home game vs. Georgia Military College on Friday before their last road trip.
Lions split with Truett McConnell College
4/08/08: The Young Harris Softball team split a double header with coference foe Truett McConnell. The Lions (22-13) behind the pitching of Whitney Robinson won game one 5-2. In game two the Lions would jump out to a early lead only to give up five runs in the late innings. The Lions Whitney Robinson and Kat Teserakova, and Madison Carpenter would all pitch in the 7-3 loss. The Lions will now travel to South Georgia and play Andrew College on the 11th to start a three game road trip.
Rain forces Lions to reschedule coference road games
4/03/08: Heavy rains in South Georiga forced the cancellation of games this weekend vs. Middle Georgia, South Georiga, and Andrew College. All games will be made up over the next two weekends during the next two road trips. The Lions will play their next game at home vs. Truett McConnell College at E.D. Rivers Tuesday the 8th at 2:00pm.
Mountain Lions drop two to Coastal Georgia
3/30/08: Young Harris Softball droped a pair of conference games to rival Coastal Georgia Community College. Young Harris (21-12) dropped game one 4-3 after leading going into the sixth inning. Whitney Robinson took the loss. In game two the Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, only to see Coastal Georgia come back with a nine run fourth inning and pull out the victory 9-8. Kat Teserakova took the loss. The Lions will now go on the road to face Middle Georgia, Andrew College and South Georgia College.
Lady Lions sweep two from Hiawassee
3/24/08: Young Harris Softball (21-10) kept up their winning ways with a road sweep of host Hiawassee CC on Tuesday. The Lions pitched and hit well winning game one 9-2 with Whitney Robinson on the mound. Game two saw Madison Carpenter take the victory with a 7-2 win. The Lions now move into weekend play against conference foes Darton College on Saturday at 1:00pm and Coastal Georgia CC on Sunday at noon.
Mountain Lions begin Conference play vs. Gordon College
3/19/08: The lions( 19-10) began the 2008 GJCAA Conference season with two victories over Gordon College today. Whitney Robinson hit two home runs including the game winner to help the Lions to a sweep of their first games. The Lions won the first game 3-2 on a strong pitching and hitting effort by Robinson. In game two Robinson hit and came in to close out the game after a fine performance by Kat Teserakova who also had a home run. The lions will facec Hiawassee CC next week on the 24th in a double header make up from earlier in the season.
Lions have strong showing at Wallace Hanceville Classic
3/17/08: The Mountain Lions( 17-10) followed up the leadoff classic with a fine showing in the Wallace Hanceville classic. The Lions battled the rain and some tough competition to start Friday night off with a 1-0 victory over Alabama Southern.Saturday saw the Lions gain a 8-4 victory over eventual tournament winner Bevill State, and followed that with a 3-2 win over Motlow State. Sunday saw the Lions split a pair of games, losing a game to tourenament host Wallace Hanceville 2-5, and winning their final game over Jefferson CC 2-1. The final game vs. South Caroiina Aiken Tech was not played due to time constraints. The Lady Lions will be in action next week for their first conference game of the year vs. Gordon College at home on the 18th with the first pitch at 2:00pm.
Mountain Lions claw threw teams at Leadoff Classic
3/10/08: The Lady Mountain Lions(13-9) had a successful weekend in Panama City Florida, while attending the NFCA Leadoff Classic. The event is made up of teams who have competed at nationals or are usually ranked in the national standings. YHC started the weekend on friday with a 8-0 victory over CCBC Catonsville, and then lost a tough contest to Mississippi Gulf Coast 0-3. On Saturday, the Lions held a 6-3 lead into the sixth inning before Wallace dothan errupted for 16 runs and handed the Lions their second loss. Young Harris would bounce back with a victory over Central Alabama CC in the nightcap to set themselves up for Sunday Gold bracket play. The Lions would fall just short of makeing the finals with a tough 2-1 loss to Blinn Community College of Texas. The lady Lions will play next weekend at the Wallace Hanceville Classic in Alabama against some of the best in the nation. Games begin Friday night.
Hiawassee and Roane State Games to be Rescheduled due to Weather
2/27/08: Home and road games this week with Raone State and Hiawassee Community College will be rescheduled due to bad weather in the area. The new date for the game at Hiawassee is now set for March the 25th, while the Roane State game be be reset at a later date. The Lions will now play next weekend in Panama Beach at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
Lions Battle at the Beach
2/24/08: The lady Mountain Lions softball team traveled to Panama Beach Florida coming out with two big victories at the Gulf Coast Classic. With some of the finest teams in the south competing, the Lions opened with a win over #14 ranked Wallace Hanceville of Alabama, and a win over Jefferson State of Alabama. Whitney Robinson, Kat Teserakova, and Madison Carpenter combined on the two victories. The Lions suffered two losses to Brevard Community College of Florida and lost a close battle to St. Petersburg Community College. The Lions now 11 - 6 on the year will face Hiawassee Community College on Thursday the 28th. The games vs. Roane State will be rescheduled for a later date in the year due to bad weather.
Young Harris Splits with Cleveland State
2/19/08: The Young Harris Mountain Lions split a double header with Cleveland State Community College on Tuesday. The Lady Lions took the first game 2-1 with kat Teserakova taking the victory. In game two the Lions fell to CSCC 0-1 with Whitney Robinson taking the loss. The Lions will be in action on Friday at the Gulf Coast Classic in Panama Beach Florida.
Lions fight for the gold at Ringor Invitational
2/18/08: The Young Harris Softball team had a strong showing at the Ringor Invitational Tournament hosted by South Carolina Aiken-Tech. The Lions opened the tournament with a Friday night victory over Pitt Community College 7-6. The Lions would play a second game on Friday and come up on the short end to Gadsden State 3-7. Saturday would bring sunshine ant two great games, with the Mountain Lions posting victories over South Carolina- Salkehatchie 6-2 and a victory over the 29th ranked Walters State 7-6. The victories put the Lady Lions in the Gold bracket where they would face Florida Community College jacksonville. The Lions would come up short in that game 1-2 and finnish tied for third in the tournament. Whitney Robinson led the Lions with two homeruns and a triple on the weekend. The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday vs. Cleveland State at CSCC.
Lady Mountain Lions Softball Season Opens with silver medal at AAU International Games
The Lady Mountain Lions Softball team opened the season with 5 wins at the International Softball Classic in Disney World before losing in the final to the host Puerto Rican National team in the final. The Mountain Lions defeated the national teams from Jamaica (5-0); the Bahamas (8-3); and the Virgin Islands (9-2) on day one. On day two the Lions defeated the National team II, from the Bahamas (8-0). day three saw the Lions pick up win number five on the season against the Bahamas team (8-1) in the semifinal game. The Lions string of wins would run out during the final against Puerto Rico, as jen Musillo would pitch a shutout (9-0) in the victory over the lady Lions. We congradulate Puerto Rico and all the fine National teams that represented their countries in this fantastic event at the Disney Sports Complex. The Mountain Lions will be in action again on Friday February the 15th at Aiken Tech in South Carolina for the Ringor Classic. Game times to be announced soon.
International Classic To Feature National Teams
12/13/07: The Lady Mountain Lions will Open the 2008 softball season at the International Softball Classic at the Disney Softball Complex, January 24th,25th,26th. The Tournament will feature International Teams from the Bahamas, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Spain and Columbia. YHC has been placed in "Pool - A " with the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
Young Harris College Announces 2008 Spring Softball Schedule
12/11/07: The 2008 Mountain Lion Softball Schedule was announced and it will include a non-conference schedule of tournaments and double headers with strong opponents. "We are anticipating our conference to again be strong and very competitive," commented Coach Geldart. The Mountain Lions will look to their returning sophomores and several incoming freshman to achieve their goal of reaching the GJCAA Region XVII post season tournament.
2007/08 FALL SCHEDULE
The Lady Mountain Lions will play a strong Fall schedule including games at Hiawassee College, North Georgia College and State, Furman University, Western Carolina University, and Appalachian State University. Opponents will include, Southern Weslyan, Newberry College, Wingate,Erskine, Spartanburg Methodist, Hiawassee, Roane State, Reinhardt College, North Georgia, Western Carolina, Lenoir Rhyne, and Appalachian State. 2007 FALL SEASON TO BEGIN
The Lady Mountain Lions Softball Team begins their 2007/08 season with a returning core of nine players and 12 new freshman faces in the chase for the Region XVII title. Haley Arrendale, Sarah Applegarth, Amanda Brooks, Carrie Fox, Casie Jones, Kristin Rainwater, Denise Ramey, Amanda Schumacher, and Katarina Tesarikova return for a sophomore season to lead the Lions.The new incoming freshman are Lauren Bayles, Leigh Ann Bryan, Madison Carpenter, Bailey Cross, Lauren Dupont, Lauren Dyer, Katie Garren, Kayla Lovell, Rebecca Manley, and Whitney Robinson, round out the new 2007 /08 roster for the Lady Mountain Lions softball team.
