#9 KORI PICKOWITZ

MOUNTAIN LIONS KNOCKED OUT OF REGION TOURNAMENT


4/29/07: The 2007 season came to an end for the Lady Mountain Lions with two losses in the Region 17 Tournament in Dublin Georgia. The Lions(27-31) battled for three innings in a scoreless game before errors combined with walks and a few hits allowed Darton College to open up a four run lead. darton would go on to add seven more runs for the 11-0 victory. The Lions came back the next day only to suffer the same fate as Abraham Baldwin College blanked the Lions for a 7-0 victory thus ending the season for Young Harris. kori Pickowitz had multiple hits for the lions on the weekend. The Lions wish to congradulate Georgia Perimeter College on winning the Region XVII tournament and wish them well at the NJCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS next month.

MOUNTAIN LIONS AND JAGUARS HONOR VIRGINIA TECH


4/22/07: On a day originally scheduled to honor the four graduating sophomore players for the Mountain lions, Young Harris and Georgia Perimeter College spent the day honoring the fallen students and teachers of the Virginia tech Tragedy. The players from each team held hands along the foul lines as a moment of silence was observed. After Kristen Stephens sang the National Anthem,the players all put on hair ties in the colors of Virginia Tech in their honor.In game one the GPC bats came out strong as they hit three home runs in four innings to seal the 7-0 victory. Game two saw the YHC bats do the same as they would put up four unanswered runs late on two hits by sophomore Kori Pickowitz to win game two 5-1. the victory means the Mountain Lions (27-29)will again be a part of the Region XVII Tournament in Dublin Georgia beginning next Friday. The Lions now will finnish out their regular season games on Tuesday with a home game against Division III Emory University. Game time is scheduled for 1:00pm

YOUNG HARRIS DROPS TWO TO ABAC


4/14/07: The Mountain Lions droped two crucial conference games to region foe Abraham Baldwin College on Saturday at E.D. Rivers Field. The Lions(22-28) sufferned their 4th straight conference loss, and are now 6-8 in conference play. The Lions led game one most of the way, but ABAC would score nine runs from the fifth inning on and win the game 9-5. In game two the Lions would again lead early, but could not hold off ABAC as they would go on to win game two by a score of 6-3. The Lions will now face Andrew College on Sunday in what is now a must will conference game if they hope to advance to the Region XVII Championships. Game time for Sunday is set at 1:00pm.

LIONS SWEPT BY WARRIORS AT HOME


4/14/07:Region leader Middle Georgia College swept thru town on Friday and took two crucial victories from the Lady Lions softball team. Young Harris dropped to 22-26 overall and 6-6 in the conference as the season comes down to the final weeks of play.In game one, Young Harris made three errors in the 2nd inning and allowed the warriors to put up six runs in the frame. Middle Georgia would go on to win 8-5 as the Lions could not answer the bats of their opponent. In game two, Young Harris(22-26)would jump out to the early lead,but again could not hold off the hitting of the warriors as MGC would put up seven runs for a 7-1 victory over the host Mountain Lions. Young Harris now 6-6 in the conference will face Abraham Baldwin Saturday at 10:00am in a critical conference game for both teams.

SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM THE BEARS


4/11/07: The softball team traveled to Truett McConnell where they sweept the Bears for two conference wins today.Young Harris (22-24)took game one 6-5 on a two run home run by Katerina Teserakova in the top of the seventh inning that scored Kori Pickowitz, who led off the inning with a triple. In game two, the Lions jumped all over the Bears and put up seven runs in the 5th inning to earn a 10-0 win over the host Bears. Teserakova,Fox,and Applegarth each had a multi hit game.The Mountain Lions(6-4-CONF), return home for a three day weekend conference series with Middle Georgia on Friday, ABAC on Saturday, and Andrew College on Sunday. Game times will be based on the weather conditions.

GMC GAME RESCHEDULED DUE TO RAIN


4/4/07: Todays game at Georiga Military College has been cancelled due to rain in the Millegeville area. The game will be made up at a later date. Please check back with us for the make up date.The team travels next on the 10th to Truett Mcconnell for a Conference game starting at 2:00p.m. The Lions will then begin a three game home stand next weekend against Region 17 oponents Middle Georgia,Abraham Baldwin,and Andrew College on the 13th,14th,and 15th.

SOFTBALL EARNS SPLIT WITH DARTON COLLEGE


4/1/07:The Lady Lions(20-24)traveled to conference foe Darton College and came away with a split for their region series. Game one was a close game into the sixth inning when the darton bats came alive. dartons hitting and YHC errors cost the Lions game one 2-7. In game two the two teams matched play for play until late in the game. With a runner on, Casie jones laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved the go ahead runner into position to score. This followed by three errors for Darton College, led to the 10-4 victory for the lions and a 4-4 record in Conference play. The Lions next travel to Georgia Military College for another Conference game on the 4th with game time sceduled for 2:00p.m.

MOUNTAIN LIONS DROP FOUR TO NATIONAL POWERS


3/30/07: The Mountain Lions(19-23)suffered two sweeps from two of the stronest programs in the nation, as Gulf Coast CC and Walters State each swept double headers from the Lions at E.D. Rivers Field this week.For five innings Katerina Teserakova held Gulf Coast to one run and had the Lions in the game. In innings six and seven, a combination of errors,walks, and hits led to Gulf coast putting up ten runs on the board for the 0-11 victory. The Lions had chances with runners on, but could not push across the runs. In game two, Sarah Applegarth game the game close till the end, and again the Lions could not push across the go ahead run losing 2-3. In the next series, The lions hit the ball, but were not able to stop the bats on Walters State CC as the visitors put up 17 runs in game one for a 17-4 victory, and followed that with a 4-2 win in game two. The Lions now move on to Darton College for a weekend Conference game against the defending Region champions. Game time is set for 1:00p.m.

LIONS BEGIN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH GORDON COLLEGE, COASTAL GEORGIA,AND SOUTH GEORGIA


3/26/07: The Lady Lions(19-19)started off conference play with a 3-3 rocord over the past weekend. The first conference trip of the season saw the lions drop two to the host Gordon College 7-8 in extra innings and 3-7. On day two fo the trip the Lions split at host Coastal Georgia CC winning the first game 3-0 and losing game two 1-2. On day three, the Lions swept South Georgia College at home posting a 2-0 and 6-3 victories to earn a .500 conference record after week one of conference play. The Lions were led over the weekend by Freshman Carrie Fox, who went 7-21 with four runs and one win in the circle. The Lions next face National powerhouse Gulf Coast CC at home on the 27th, and Walters State at home on the 29th. First pitch in each series is set for 2:00p.m.

MOUNTAIN LIONS STAKE TWO FROM BLUE STORM



03/14/07: The Mountain Lions softball team (16-16) finnished their spring break trip with a double header sweep of Southwestern Illinois at the S.C.A.D. Spring Invitational. The Lions had a homerun in the first game by Liz walker, and a two run scoring hit by Kristin Rainwater to win game two by the score of 7-5.The Lions begin conference play against Gordon College on the 23rd of March.

SOFTBALL WORKING HARD AT WALLACE HANCEVILLE



03/13/07: The Lady Lions(14-16) played some of the best teams in the nation during the Walace Hanceville Lead Off Classic this past weekend. YHC opened with three hard fought losses to Blinn CC of Texas,followed by Host Wallace Hanceville,and Hiwassee CC during pool play. The next morning the Lions Lost a close 1-3 game to Bevill State and then came back to beat Louisburg CC in the night cap. Championship day in the bronze bracket saw the Lions beat Jefferson State and then fall to South Carolina-Aiken in the Final of the Bronze bracket.Liz Walker led the Lions this weekend raising her average almost 100 points with many key hits.The Lions travel to Savannah Georgia Tuesday for the S.C.A.D. Spring Invitational where they will play a double header against Southwestern Illinois.

LIONS DROP TWO AT GPC INVITATIONAL



3/4/07: The lady Mountain Lions(11-10) droped both halves of the double header to Walters State CC and Wallace Hanceville CC over the weekend. In Game one the Lions were cruising behind pitcher Carrie Fox thru six innings with a 5-0 lead only to give up seven runs in the bottom two innings to send the game to extra innings. Walters State would prevail 9-8 in nine innings. In game two katerina Teserakova shut down the powerhouse wallace Hanceville for five innings only to give up two runs in the bottom two innings for a 0-2 loss. Nichole Stanford had the only hits in game two to lead the Lady Lions. the Lions come home for a double header vs. Aiken Tech on Wednesday the 7th with first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm at E.D. Rivers field.

MOUNTAIN LIONS SWEEP TMC BEARS AT HOME



3/3/07: The Young Harris Mountain Lions softball team (11-8) swept the visiting Truett-McConnell College Bears by the score of 4-0 and 6-3 in a non-conference double header at E.D. Rivers field.lauren Angel and Nichole Stanford each hit their first college home runs to lead the offense, while Katerina Teserakova and Carrie Fox shut down the visiting Bears with some stellar defense behind them. The Lions travel to Georgia Perimeter College on Saturday for the GPC Invitational to Play Walters State CC and Wallace Hanceville CC with the first game scheduled for at Noon time start vs. WSCC.

YOUNG HARRIS SPLITS WITH CLEVELAND STATE AND ROANE STATE



3/1/07: The Lady Mountain Lions(9-8) fought there way thru the Tennessee conference splitting Double Headers with Cleveland State and Roane State this week. Young Harris won a hard fought 5-4 first game,and Cleveland State jumped all over Young Harris defense to post a 12-1 victory in game two. Roane State took the first game 7-5 and Young Harris came back to win game two 9-3.Haley Arrendale had a key hit to lead the lions to the victory. The Lions play Truett-McConnell College at home on the 2nd. First pitch is at 2:00pm.

lADY lIONS BATTLE SPARTANBURG METHODIST



2/25/07:The Lady Lions(7-6)took the first of two games at Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday. The score in game one was 9-5 in favor of the Lions. Spartanburg jumped out early in game two to win going away by the score of 5-1. Alexis Lynch and Sarah Applegarth had multiple hits in the double header to lead the Lions. The Lions come home to face Cleveland State on the 27th with first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm at E.D. Rivers Field.

YOUNG HARRIS SOFTBALL SPLITS IN CLEVELAND TENNESSEE



2/23/07: Young Harris softball(6-5) traveled to Cleveland Tennessee splitting a double header at Cleveland State CC. Young Harris lost game one 3-5, but came back to win game two by the score of 5-3. Carrie Fox and Ashli Chafin provided multiple hits to lead the Lions.The Lions play at Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 2:00pm.

MOUNTAIN LIONS DROP HOME OPENER TO HIWASSEE



2/20/07: The Lady Mountain Lions(5-4) droped their season home opening double header to the visiting Hiwassee CC 1-6 and 8-9 in 9 innings.Alexis Lynch had two hits in the first game and scored the tying run in game two for the Lions.The team goes on the road this week to play Cleveland State and Roane State in non-conference play. First pitch for both contest is scheduled for 2:00pm.

LADY LIONS SWEEP IN AIKEN TOURNAMENT



2/18/07: Young Harris softball (5-2)battled five tough opponents to sweep thru the South Carolina-Aiken tournament undefeated this weekend. The team posted victories over Florence Darlington CC, FCCJ, Chattahoochee Valley CC,Pitt CC, and Louisburg CC, by a combined score of 44 to 12. Amanda Schumacher hit for over a .500 average and had her first college homerun. The team will play next at home on the 19th vs. Hiwassee College from Tennessee. Game time is scheduled for 2:00pm

LIONS OPEN SEASON IN ST.PETERSBURG



2/5/07: The Lady Mountain Lions Battled not only some of the best teams in the south, but also the weather in St. Petersburg Florida as they began the 2007 season. Fridays games with Warner Southern and Polk CC were rained out as heavy storms rolled thru the area. On day two the Lions started the day with a tough 0-1 loss to Pasco Hernando CC. A rough first inning saw the Lions give up the only run of the game. As the innings wound down, the Lions had runners in scoring position, but could not punch across the runs. Carrie Fox(0-1) making her first start took the loss. In game two The Lions battled St. Petersburg College in a great game that saw St. Pete jump out to an early lead only to see the Lions tie the game in the seventh inning. After three extra innings St. Petersburg would prevail 6-5. Amanda Brooks would lead the offense this weekend with a double and a triple in the two games. Carrie fox (0-2) would finnish the game in extra innings.The Lions will play next on Tuesday the 13th, at home against Region 17 foe Truett McConnell College, as the Game with Spartanburg Methodist on the 6th was resceduled do to bad weather.



2006-2007 SEASON

2007 SOFTBALL SEASON TO START



2/1/07: YHC Softball begins its 5th Spring season with a roster dominated by a freshman class. With the GJCAA again being competitive, and a non-conference schedule featuring many of the top teams in the nation, the Lady Mountain Lions will have to count on many of these freshman if they are to continue the winning tradition of Young harris College Softball. "It rest with our sophomores" commented Coach Geldart, "they must perform on both sides of the ball,hitting for high averages." If the sophomores do this and the freshman contribute, the lady mountain Lions will have a competitive season and another chance to make the region playoffs at the end of the year. The season kicks off this weekend in St.Petersburg,Florida with the Lions playing Friday and Saturday at the Eddie C. Moore complex.

FORMER MOUNTAIN LIONS START COACHING CAREERS


8/2/06: Two former Mountain Lions are set to begin their new careers as college Graduate Assistant Coaches. Katie Hill of Greyson Georiga, and Laura Goldstein of Otto North Carolina have both accepted jobs as assistant coaches for the 2007 season. Hill and Goldstein each played on the 2002-2004 Region 17 Championship winning teams that made two consecutive appearences at the national Championships for the Mountain Lions. Laura Goldstein (see photo below), will be coaching at Nationally ranked NAIA William Woods of the American Midwest Conference. Laura Played the entire infield and pitcher/catcher during her two years at Young Harris College. Laura went on to play at Virginia Intermont of the NAIA, and finnish at Division II UNC Pembroke of the Peach Belt. katie Hill was the starting catcher for her two seasons at Young Harris and then went on to catch her next two years for NAIA - Brenau University of the Southern States Athletic Conference. We wish each of these ladies well as they move into their new coaching careers, and remember the great abilities and leadership that they brought to the Mountain Lions program.

MOUNTAIN LIONS ANNOUNCE 2006-07 FALL SCHEDULE


8/1/06: The lady mountain Lions begin the Fall 2006-07 season with the toughest schedule in team history.The Lions take to the field on Friday September the 15 at Division-II North Georgia College of the Peach Belt.That Sunday they will face SEC power and Nationally Ranked Georiga Bulldogs in Athens.On Saturday the 23rd the team will play at NAIA ranked Lee University, followed by a Sunday match with Division-I kennesaw State of the Sun Atlantic Conference.Sunday October 1st the Lions will play at the Appalachian State tournament in North Carolina. On Wednesday night October 4th the team will to SOCON Champions Western Carolina, and follow that with a Friday the 6th matchup at SEC power house Auburn University.During the Auburn tournament the Lions will also face NJCAA ranked Wallace Hanceville. The next day on the 7th the opponent will be Shorter college of Rome Georgia.Friday October 13th the team travels to Atlanta to face ACC power Georgia Tech, and the season will finnish with a home game on Saturday October the 21st vs. Brenau University for parents family weekend. This will be the toughest schedule ever undertaken in the fall, but should help prepare us for the 2007 season that lies ahead. Come watch us play as we make our way into the new season.



YOUNG HARRIS COLLEGE THIRD ANNUAL MOUNTAIN LIONS SUMMER SOFTBALL CAMP


05/26/06 Young Harris College and Head Coach Eric Geldart are please to anounce the 2006 Young Harris College Mountain Lions Summer Softball Camp. The camp will run Tuesday thru Thursday on July 11th,12th, and 13th. Camp times will be from 9:00am to 4:00pm with a break for lunch and for swimming. Camp will cover Pitching,fielding,hitting and general softball fundamentals. College coaches and players will administer all aspects of the camp. FOUR MOUNTAIN LIONS EARN CONFERENCE HONORS


5/1/06 Four members of the 2006 softball team were honored during the region 17 playoffs for their hard work during the season. Alexis Lynch and Rachael Darr were named to the Region 17 First Team All Conference Team, while Kerry Hammond and Cheryl Stephens were named Second Team All Conference. Rachael Darr and Kerry Hammond were also named to the All Tournament Team for the Region 17 Playoffs.

MOUNTAIN LIONS FALL IN SEMIFINAL OF REGION TOURNAMENT


04/30/06 The Lady Mountain Lions(30-20) season came to an end Sunday with a loss in the semifinals to georgia perimeter College 3-0. The Lions started Friday with a 4-1 loss to Abraham Baldwin College. On Saturday in a must win situation, the Lions came back to beat Georgia Military 4-1, and followed that game up with a win over Middle Georgia 3-1. In the Semifinals on Sunday, Young Harris faced off against number one seed Georgia Perimeter College. Rachael Darr threw three innings of no hit ball, but the Lions were unable to answer on many offensive chances and eventually fell to GPC 3-0. This put an end to the Mountain Lions 2006 season. The Lions finnished with a record of 30 wins and 20 losses. Georgia Perimeter would go on to the finals against Darton College, where Darton would win the Championship game 9-4 to represent region 17 at our National Championships this season. We congradulate Darton College on a fine performance and wish them good luck in the National Championships in Plant City Florida.

LIONS TAKE FINAL TWO OF REGULAR SEASON


4/25/06 the Lady Mountain Lions (28-18) finnished the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Andrew College to finnish 13-7 in the conference. On Friday the Lions lost both sides of a doubleheader to Georgia Perimeter College, by the scores of 4-6 and 1-2. On Saturday the Lions traveled to Abraham Baldwin College where they were swept by the Stallions 1-0 and 6-0. Young Harris then traveled to Andrew College on Sunday where Rachael Darr and April day combined on a five inning perfect game to win 8-0 in game one. In game two the Lions shut down Andrew College 4-0. The team will now travel to Vadosta State University for the Region 17 Playoffs. The Mountain Lions are seeded fourth in the six team tournament and begin play on Friday at 3:00pm vs. Abraham Baldwin College.

YOUNG HARRIS DOUBLE'S UP TRUETT McCONNELL


04/11/06 Rachael Darr was near perfect again as she struck out 17 and walked one batter to lead the Mountain Lions(26-14) to another conference sweep. Liz walker had two hits and scored a run in the 2-0 game one win. In Game two, Corrie Wood and April Day combined again for the 9-0 shutout of the visiting Bears. Kerry Hammond hit a two run home run scoring Carli Rodriguez-Feo in the fourth inning to put the game on ice. YHC will next face Spartanburg Methodist College on Tuesday the 18th, before their final weekend of conference play starting on Friday at Georgia Perimeter College. Game time Tuesday in at 2:00pm

LIONS SPLIT WITH MARINERS


04/10/06 The Lady Lions split Monday's double header with visiting conference rival Coastal Georgia Mariners. Rachael Darr gave up only one earned run, but the Lions could not put up more than one run themselves as the Mariners took game one 3-1. In game two, the Lions(24-14) were led by Kerry Hammonds 3-4 performance at the plate, and the winning run scored by Freshman Lauren Angel in the Bottom of the eight inning. Angel was safe at the plate on a hard hit ball by Cheryl stephens in the extra inning game.The victory gives the Lions an 9-3 conference record as we head into the end of the seaon. The Mountain Lions will face Truett McConnell Tuesday at home with the game scheduled for a first pitch time of 4:00pm.

DARR THROWS 1 HITTER TO SHUT DOWN GMC


04/09/06 Sophomore Rachael threw a 1 hitter while striking out 14 to lead the lady Lions(23-13) in a double header sweep of Georgia Military College. Alexis Lynch and Kori Pickowitz provided the runs for the 3-0 victory. In game two, Corrie Wood and April day combined to lead the Lions to a 8-2 victory with the help of 12 hits by the offense. Young Harris will not face Coastal Georgia Monday to make up for Saturdays rainout. Game time is 1:00pm

WOOD AND DAY "HAVE A DAY" AS THE LIONS SHUT DOWN TMC


4/05/06 April Day had a perfect day pitching a complete game no hitter against Truett McConnell College. Day struck out 13 of 15 batters she faced for the 8-0 win. In game two, Corrie Wood struck out five on her way to a 5-2 victory and the sweep of TMC. The lions(21-13)win come home to play Coastal Georgia Saturday at noon, and Georgia Military College on Sunday at E.D. Rivers Field at 1:00pm

LIONS TAKE FOUR OF SIX TO IN CONFERENCE PLAY



4/3/06 The lady Mountain Lions(19-13)headed into more conference play this week winning four of their first six games. The Lions began on Friday with a split at South Georgia College winning 1-0 in the first game, and loosing the second game 0-3. On Saturday the Lions traveled to Middle Georgia College where they swept the host team 6-0 and 6-3. On Sunday Darton College visited Young Harris and split with the Mountain lions winning the first game 2-0 and loosing the second game 3-4 to the home team.The Lions are now 6-2 in conference play and will face Truitt McConnell on Wednesday in a non-conference game at White County High School in Cleveland,Ga. Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm.

MOUNTAIN LIONS DROP TWO AT WALTERS STATE


3/26/06 The Lady Mountain Lions (15-11) dropped a pair of games to host Walters State CC on Sunday. Rachael Darr (7-4) took the loss on a six hitter by the score of 0-3. In game two, April Day (4-3) had a no hitter through five innings before Walters State hit a two run home run in the sixth to take the lead. The Lions came back to score one in the seventh before the home team was able to close out the game for the 2-1 victory. Young Harris will now play a three game set this weekend in conference play starting Friday with games at South Georgia College, followed by a Saturday Double header with Middle Georgia, and ending on Sunday with a twin bill against Darton College in Albany.

YOUNG HARRIS SWEEPS CONFERENCE OPENER VS. GORDON COLLEGE


3/25/06 The lady Mountain Lions(15-9) opened conference play Saturday with a double header sweep of rival Gordon College. Rachael Darr pitched a 11 strikeout, 4 hit shutout 1-0 for the victory in game one. The offense was led by Alexis Lynch's three hits and three stolen bases along with a clutch hit in the seventh inning by Ann Morrison to win the game. In game two Corrie Wood and April Day combined for 10 strikouts while only giving up six hits in the game. The offense was provided by Cheryl Stephens who hit a 3 run home run to break the game open. Corrie Wood (4-4) was awarded the victory. The Mountain lions will travel tomorrow to Tennessee to face Walters State CC. Game time for the double header is 1:00pm

MOUNTAIN LIONS SWING FOR SILVER AT LEADOFF CLASSIC


03/10/06 The lady Mountain Lions(13-9) battled some of the best teams in the nation on the way to a runner up finnish in the the consolation game of the Silver braket at the Leadoff Classic in Wallace-Hanceville this past weekend. Young Harris Started Friday with a 0-6 loss to Blinn college of Texas. They would follow that with a close 1-3 loss to Jeff Davis College Friday evening. Saturday the Lions would pick up a 7-4 win over Nationally ranked Columbia State, before droping an extra innings game 1-2 to Jefferson State College. On Sunday the team would earn a victory over Alabama Southern before droping the final game to Shelton State. The Mountain Lions now go on Spring break before returning to place their first conference home game vs. Gordon College on March 25th at 1:30pm

YOUNG HARRIS DROPS ONE TO GULF COAST CC


03/04/06 Young Harris College Softball (11-5) droped another game 0-8 to the number 4 ranked Gulf Coast CC on Saturday at the Georgia Perimeter invitational. April Day (4-2) gave up 8 hits and 6 walks in the loss. Corrie Wood came in to face the final batter of the game. The second game vs. FCCJ was cancelled due to darkness. The Mountain lions will travel next to the Wallace Hanceville leadoff classic this weekend, in Alabama. Games are scheduled to begin on Friday Afternoon, when the Mountain Lions will face Blinn CC from texas.

COACH GELDART GETS WIN # 400 AS MOUNTAIN LIONS TAKE TWO FROM CLEVELAND STATE



03/02/06 Head Coach Eric Geldart became the newest member of the 400 victory club with a double header sweep of Cleveland State. Coach Geldart earned his 113 victory in three plus seasons at Young Harris. Coach Geldart had previously won 288 games while coaching at Division III Western New England College in Massachusetts. The Lions(11-4) were led in the first game by great defense and a home run off the bat of Sophomore infielder Cheryl Stephens. Rachael Darr had 11 strike outs in the 4 hit 10-2 victory. In the second game, the offense banged out 8 hits and 10 runs in support of Sophomore pitcher Corrie wood. Wood gave up only 2 hits while striking out 5 for the 10-1 victory. The Mountain Lions travel to Georgia Perimeter College on Saturday for a tournament where they will face FCCJ and National powerhouse Gulf Coast CC. YHC's first game is at 3:00pm, with the second game scheduled for 5:00pm.

YOUNG HARRIS SWEEPS TWO FROM AIKEN TECH


03/01/06 The Mountain Lions sweep two games from South Carolina Aiken Tech. In game one, Alexis Lynch had four stolen bases and scored a run to back up the 10 strikout performance of Sophomore Rachael Darr who struck out 10 for the 4-0 shutout victory. In game two, April Day struck out six and Alexis Lynch scored twice for the 3-2 win. This was the ninth win of the season for the Lions who will play again on Thursday against Cleveland State. Game time is scheduled for 2:00pm.

YHC BATTLE'S AT THE BEACH


02/26/06 The Mountain lions tarveled to Panama City Florida and faced some of the best in the nation, winning one of four games this weekend. The Lions(7-4) lost a great battle with power house Okaloosa Walton 1-2 on a home run late in the game. April Day took the loss. In the second game errors mounted as Tallahassee CC won 7-2 with Rachael Darr taking the loss. The Mountain Lions took their worse loss in four years as the number four Nationally Ranked Gulf Coast CC banged out four home runs and won 19-0. Corrie Wood took the loss. Young Harris bounced back in the last game to beat Lake Land ILL, 3-0 behind Liz Walker's Homerun and a 10 strikeout performance of Rachael Darr. The Mountain Lions will play their first home game's Wednesday and Thursday against Cleveland State and South Carolina Aiken Tech with Wednesdays Game time to be 1:00pm

MOUNTAIN LIONS SWEEP CLEVELAND STATE


02/21/06 The lady Mountain Lions (6-1) swept two games from the host Cleveland State Cougars. April Day gained the win in game one 7-6. In game two Sophomore Corrie Wood had a 14 strike out performance to win 9-5. A 7 run first inning sealed the win for the Mountain Lions.Young Harris will be in action agian this weekend in Panama City Florida as they play in the Gulf Coast invitational hosted by the nationally number four ranked Gulf Coast CC. Games will begin at 10:00am Saturday morning.

LIONS TAKE FOUR OF FIVE IN AIKEN S.C.


2/18/06 The lady Mountain Lions opened the 2006 season winning four of five games in the South Carolina Aiken Lady Knights Fastpitch Invitational. The Lions won a close 1-0 game against Louisburg College to open the season. Rachael Darr was the winning pitcher striking out 8 and allowing four singles. All three pitchers combined to win the next game 11-10 vs. Pitt CC with Rachael Darr getting the decision. Milligan College (NAIA) would prevail in the third game of the day 5-3 with Corrie Wood taking the loss.
Corrie Wood and April Day would combine on a 2 hitter winning 11-0 over Spartanburg Methodist with Day getting the win. April Day would finnished Saturday with a 7-2 win over Florence Darlington CC,with 10 strikouts. The Lions (4-1) Now travel to Cleveland State on Tuesday for a double header with the first game scheduled to start at 2:00pm weather permitting.

HOME OPENER AGAINST SMC CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW


2/10/06 The Mountain Lion Home opener against Spartanburg Methodist College has been rescheduled to April 18th at 2:00pm due to snow and rain in the mountain area. Young Harris will now open their season next weekend at South Carolina-Aiken with games scheduled to start on Friday.

ST.PETERSBURG SEASON OPENER WASHED OUT</B< H5>

2/4/06 The season opening tournament at St. Petersburg Florida was washed out by torential rain storms on Florida's Gulf Coast this weekend. The Mountain Lions will now open their season at home on Saturday the 11th against the visiting Spartanburg Methodist College weather permiting. Game one start time is scheduled for 1:00pm.

THE NEW YEAR STARTS 2006 Spring Softball!



The lady Mountain Lions begin the 2006 Spring schedule in St. Petersburg Florida in the first of five weekend series of games. This will be prior to their Conference schedule which will begin in March. With five sophomores on the roster, the Lady Mountain Lions will be looking for strong support out of their incoming class.
"Our pitching and catching should keep us competitive in our conference" stated Coach Geldart. "We will need our sophomore hitters to lead the way as they did last year as freshmen. Our new people will help."

FORMER ALL AMERICA OAKLEYS JERSEY RETIRED



2002-2003 Former First Team All American pitcher Stacie Oakleys jersey #13 was retired on Saturday during the parents weekend game vs.Reinhardt College. Many former players from as far back as the first season in 1990 showed up to be honored along with Stacie Oakley on this special day. Former coaches John Kniess and Debra Courtney who started the softball program in 1990 were also on hand to speak to the Alumni,family and fans. Stacie Oakley was honored for having one of if not the best ever season by a Young Harris player. She finnished with a record of 21 wins and 4 losses, while earning NJCAA First Team All American, NFCA First Team All American, NJCAA First Team All Southern Region, GJCAA Region 17 First Team,Region 17 Player Of The Year,and Region 17 Tournament MVP.Stacie was one of only two pitchers in the nation to record more than 300 strikouts for the season, and averaged more than 11 strikouts per game. These stats placed her in the top five in all pitching catagories in the nation.She was able to lead the Mountain Lions to their first ranking inside the top 20 with a final regular season ranking of 18th in the nation.Stacie was also a big part of team making their second appearance in a row at the National Tournament. Stacie along with all of the Alumni helped to take this program to new heights and gave future players a goal to reach for and strive for each season as we move forward. We are forever in debted to Stacie and all of the great Alumni who have made this program what it is today, and we hope to invite them back every season to honor the accomplishments of those who have come before us and look forward to many great memories in the future.

 

 

The Lady Mountain Lions game at Georgia Tech University on Saturday October 8th was cancelled due to rain. No make up date has been set at this time.

The Softball team will play Western Carolina University on Wednesday October the 19th at the WCU Field at 4:30pm

October 22nd will be a very special weekend as Young Harris College softball will play Reinhardt College at home on Family Weekend. Many Alumni will be in attendance for a special event which kicks off at 1:30 pm at E.D.Rivers Field.

2005-2006 Lady Mountain Lions


Fall practice welcomed a squad of 18 players as the Lady Mountain Lions prepared for a Fall schedule which includes games with NCAA Division I and II colleges and Universities. "This type of schedule will allow the players not only exposure, but a college level of ball," commented Coach Geldart. At the conclussion of the Fall program, the Lady Mountain Lions will turn their attention to a very difficult Spring 2006 schedule. "The Fall will give us a good idea as a team whether we can meet the demands of the Spring," states the coaching staff. The Mountain Lions return four seniors in Kerry Hammond, Cheryl Stevens,Sabrina Tucker, and Corrie Wood. They are joined by Sophomore transfer Rachael Darr and incoming freshman Lauren Angel,Sara Bagley,Olivia Carlyle,Stephanie Berger,Eden Eestep,Kori Pickowitz,Alexis Lynch,Ann Morrison,Kellie Smith,Ashley Davis,Lindsey Wood,Liz Walker,and April Day on the 2005-2006 Lady Mountain Lion roster.

 


Coach Brian Staubly

Assistant Coach takes job at BCC



Assistant Coach Brian Staubly has accepted the head coaching position at Broward Community College in South Florida for the 2005-2006 season. Coach Staubly had moved from South Florida last season to work with Coach Geldart and the Young Harris Softball team. While here, he was responsible for the outfield and handled summer camps and daily clinics. Coach Staubly moves back to South Florida where he has been established as a travel ball, high school, and college coach in the past. Coach Staubly succeeds Head Coach Kim Eason, who he had worked for in the previous two seasons at BCC. He wish him great success in the up coming season..
