YOUNG HARRIS MOUNTAIN LIONS COACHING STAFF

Coach Geldart, known as Coach 'G' to his athletes and peers, has been coaching for more than 30 years.  He spent 18 years as Head Coach at
Western New England College and the last 5 seasons at Young Harris College.

While at Western New England College, Coach G amassed a total of 288 victories. In just his 4th season at Young Harris College he has already over 150 victories; including 2 Region XVII titles and 2 appearances at the NJCAA National Championships.  Young Harris College's softball program has been ranked in the top 25 for 3 of the last 4 years.

During the 2006 season, Coach "G" became the newest member of the 400 victory club with a double header sweep of Cleveland State. From 1995 to 2001 Coach G has managed and coached select teams.  Each has competed in the summer Puerto Rican Festivale Olympico.  In late 2005, the invitation to the International Fastpitch event came again.  Coach G learned of the desire to have a top US quality presence in the annual Festivale Olympico tournament. So Coach G began to pull together what is now Team Select.

During his 30 plus years coaching, he has coached international softball and basketball around the world!  He experiences include coaching professional basketball in Puerto Rico competing against many current National Basketball Association and NCAA college coaches. Coach Geldart is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and a graduate of Roanoke College.

Danny Rubino is in his sixth season at Young Harris College as Coach Geldarts's Assistant Coach. Coach Rubino is also the  President and Director of Operations for Team Select. He is in his third year with Team Select.

Since 1992, Coach Rubino has been involved in coaching softball.  Coach Rubino started his career in south Florida in the 19U diviswion, organizing one of the first competitive teams.  As his reputation grew, demand for Coach Rubino's private instruction for hitting brought hundreds of players from around south Florida.  Coach Rubino helped establish and developed many different clinics across south Florida. Additionally, he was able to work in Texas and Florida under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Diane Baker.

In the mid-1990’s Coach Rubino served as Head Coach, Assistant Coach or Hitting Instructor at four different high schools as well as supporting travel organizations. During this time, Coach Rubino helped many colleges from all over the nation in their search for top players. More than half of his travel ball players proudly went on to play college softball programs due to Coach Rubino’s recommendations. Coach Rubino worked for two years as an assistant softball coach at Broward Community College and coached the areas’ first 23U team. In 2005, Coach Rubino moved to the north Georgia mountains and became the Assistant Softball Coach under Head Coach Eric Geldart at the nationally recognized Young Harris College. Since coming to Young Harris, Coaches Geldart and Rubino have achieved two Region 17 Championships in their first four years together.

In 2006 Coach Rubino took over the operations role of  Georgia / Wilson Team Select. The roster for Team Select included players from Tulsa University, Georgia Tech, Florida State University, University of Arkansas, and University of Georgia among others. The 2006 Team Select played in Puerto Rico during the Festivale Olympico, eventually earning the silver medal. Coach Rubino continues to work with young players of all ages up to the women's pro league level on hitting and fielding skills. Coach Rubino is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and a graduate of Young Harris College.
