Student Health Fee
There is a mandatory student health fee. This fee varies from year to year and is pro-rated if the student is admitted during spring or summer semesters.
Contact the Business Office for the current amount of this fee.
Student Health Insurance
Students who need to see a doctor, require emergency room care, prescription medication, x-rays, laboratory tests or other specialty services are referred to off-campus providers. Because fees for such services are often very costly, YHC requires that all students have health insurance coverage.
It has been the practice of Young Harris College to offer a basic medical policy for our students who did not have other insurance options; however, on March 16, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a final student health coverage rule to ensure that students have access to coverage and benefit from the Affordable Care Act's Patient's Bill of Rights, preventive services coverage, and other consumer protections.
These rules necessitate substantial changes to the insurance policy that the college has offered to our students in the past. Therefore, the details regarding enrollment, plan specifics and claims procedures for the 2013-2014 College-sponsored insurance plan are currently undergoing review and major revision.
As soon as details are known, a letter will be sent to all new and returning students outlining the particulars of the new plan and the enrollment/waiver process that will need to be followed.
