Employment Categories

College Employees are classified as follows:

Regular full-time Employees are Employees who normally are scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week.

Temporary part-time Employees are Employees who normally are scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week but are employed only on a short-term, temporary, or special project basis.

Regular part-time Employees are Employees who normally are scheduled to work less than 30 hours each week on a consistent basis.

“Temporary part-time Employees” and “Regular part-time Employees,” receive legally-mandated benefits, such as Social Security and Workers’ Compensation, but are not eligible for other College Employee benefits.

For the purposes of family and medical leave, insurance, and certain other benefits, eligibility requirements may be different. If so, plan documents or applicable law will control eligibility.

If you have any questions concerning your status or the benefits for which you qualify, please ask your Supervisor or contact Human Resources.

Non-Exempt(hourly and salaried) Employees are subject to the minimum wage, overtime and record-keeping requirements of the state and federal law, and are entitled to overtime when they work more than 40 hours in a work week.

Exempt Employees are Employees whose job duties make them exempt from the minimum wage, overtime and record-keeping requirements of the state and federal law. They are paid on a salary basis and are not eligible for overtime pay. Your Supervisor will tell you if you are an Exempt Employee.
