Time Off to Vote

The College encourages Employees to fulfill their civic responsibilities by participating in elections. Generally, Employees are able to find time to vote either before or after their regular work schedule, or during early or advance voting periods. If Employees do not have a two-hour period before or after their workday during which they can vote, the College will grant up to 2 hours of paid time off to vote.

Employees should request time off to vote from their Supervisor at least two working days prior to the Election Day. Advance notice is required so that the necessary time off can be scheduled at the beginning or end of the work shift, whichever provides the least disruption to the Employee's normal work schedule.

Employees may seek part-time elective office so long as it will not interfere with their job duties at the College, however they must obtain permission from the Provost before qualifying for office.

Time spent campaigning for such offices must be accounted for and not paid for by the College. You should also refer to the College's policy on Outside Employment (110) detailed elsewhere in this handbook. Vacation or approved unpaid leave can be used to campaign.
