Policy

Computer and Email Usage

To help you do your job, the College may give you access to computers, computer files, the College's email system, and software. ('IT Resources'). Any use of the IT Resources must be consistent with the College's Intellectual Property Policy ('IP Policy') and Acceptable Use Policy ('AUP'). For your convenience, we have provided some general guidelines here regarding your use of the College's IT Resources, however, you should review those policies in their entirety, as you will be expected to comply with them as an employee of the College.

Different offices on campus have access to and utilize information that is sensitive, confidential, or proprietary, some of which is also protected by various laws. To avoid the improper disclosure of that information, your use of the IT Resources should be consistent with your position and you should refrain from accessing a file or otherwise using the IT Resources in a manner that is not required for the performance of your job. To make sure that all Employees follow this policy, the College may at times monitor computer and email usage.

We try hard to have a workplace that is free of harassment and sensitive to the diversity of our Employees. Therefore, we do not allow Employees to use computers and email in ways that are disruptive, harassing, offensive to others, or harmful to morale.

Employees may not display, download, or email sexually explicit images, messages, or cartoons. Employees also may not use computers and email for ethnic slurs, racial comments, off-color jokes, or anything that constitutes harassment.

You may not use email to ask other people to contribute to or to tell them about businesses outside of the College, religious or political causes, outside organizations, or any other matters not related to the College.

The College buys and licenses computer software for business purposes. We do not own the copyright to this software or its documentation. You may only use software on local area networks or on multiple machines according to the software license agreement. The College prohibits the illegal duplication of software and its documentation.

If you know about any violations of this policy, notify your Supervisor, the Vice President of Campus Technology or any member of Management. Employees who violate this policy are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

User ID and Password

Every user is responsible for the integrity of these resources under their control.' The use of another's User ID and passwords is not permitted under any circumstances.' Users must not disclose their passwords, and must take all reasonable precautions to ensure that their password remains confidential.' Any user who discloses their password to another person will be held responsible for any improper actions committed under that User ID.
