Regular full-time Employees and regular part-time Employees (Faculty and Staff) may ask for an unpaid personal leave of absence to fulfill personal obligations.
Eligible Employees may request personal leave only after they have completed twelve months of service. If you wish to take a personal leave, submit a written request to your Supervisor as far in advance as possible. Such leaves are granted in the College's sole discretion, with the approval of the College President.
An eligible Employee cannot take more than one (1) year of personal leave, with an extension of one year available with approval of the College President upon written request at least 30 days before the current leave expires. If the leave is approved, you may use any available paid time off, such as vacation, as part of your personal leave period.
Subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations of the applicable plans, the College will offer to continue to provide health insurance benefits though COBRA continuation at employee expense for up to 18 months. The employee would be invoiced by Benefit Support, Inc. for the full cost of the premium plus administrative costs or 102%.
Your benefits, such as vacation, sick leave, retirement contributions or holiday benefits, will not accrue during a personal leave and life insurance and disability coverage will cease as well. When you return from leave, the benefits will start accruing again and life and disability coverage will be reinstated.
When a personal leave ends, the College will attempt to return you to the same position if it is available. If it is not available, you will be offered a similar position for which you are qualified, if one is available.
If you do not come back to work at the end of a personal leave, your failure to return will be treated as a resignation.
