Solicitation

Approaching fellow Employees in the workplace regarding non-work related activities, organizations, or causes, regardless of how worthwhile, important, or benevolent, can create unnecessary apprehension and pressures for those Employees. The College has established rules applicable to all Employees to govern solicitation and distribution of written material during working time and entry onto the premises and work areas. All Employees are expected to comply with these rules.

Young Harris College restricts the solicitation, distribution and posting of materials on or at the College by any employee or non-employee, except as may be permitted by this policy. The exceptions to this policy are charitable and community activities supported by Young Harris College and College-sponsored programs related to the Young Harris College mission.

As used in this policy, "working time" includes all time for which an Employee is paid and/or is scheduled to be performing services for the College. It does not include break periods, meal periods, or periods in which an Employee is not, and is not scheduled to be, performing services or work for the College.

PROVISIONS:

Non-employees may not solicit employees or distribute literature of any kind on Young Harris Colleges premises at any time without prior approval of the Advancement Office or Human Resources. Employees may only admit non-employees to work areas for the purpose of solicitation with prior approval. These visits should not disrupt workflow.

Employees may not solicit other employees during work times without prior approval of the Advancement office or Human Resources, except in connection with a College approved or sponsored event.

Employees may not distribute literature of any kind during work times, or in any work area at any time without prior approval of the Advancement office or Human Resources, except in connection with a College-sponsored event. A College-sponsored event is an event that has been approved by the Cabinet, such as the Crop Walk.

The posting of materials or electronic announcements regarding any type of solicitation are only permitted with prior approval from the Advancement office or Human Resources.

Violation of this policy should be reported to Human Resources.

The Solicitation and Distribution Policy as it relates to students and in the Residence Halls is administered and controlled by Student Development. The Vice President of Student Development is the approving authority here.
