Bio 251 -- Chapter 25 objectives

  1. Know the orthomyxoviruses, and influenza, the disease they cause.
  2. Know the zoonotic viruses called bunyaviruses and arenaviruses, and the diseases they cause (including lassa fever, argentine hemorrhagic fever, and other hemorrhagic fevers).
  3. Know the paramyxoviruses, which include the diseases parainfluenza, mumps, rubeola (red measles), and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Know how these diseases progress.
  4. Know the rhabdoviruses which cause rabies.
  5. Know the togaviruses which cause rubella (german measles).
  6. Know the arboviruses (arthropod-borne viruses), and the diseases Colorado tick fever, western equine encephalitis (WEE), eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), California encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis (SLE), yellow fever, and dengue fever.
  7. Know the retroviruses, including HIV (and the disease AIDS), and HTLV (human T-cell Leukemia Virus).
  8. Know the enteroviruses, including the disease poliomyelitis, hepatitis A, and others.
  9. Know the rhinoviruses, and the diseases they cause.
