Describe bacterial cell wall structure, and the difference between gram positive and gram negative cell walls.
Describe the gram staining process, including all involved chemicals and their roles.
What conditions cause endospore formation. Describe the process of endospore formation.
List and describe the various bacterial shapes.
Differentiate between the various bacterial cell arrangements or groupings.
Know the major groups of bacteria as outlined by Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology.
Know how the alternate system of classification is fundamentally organized (classification according to medical importance).
What are methods used to identify bacteria?
Discuss the unusual bacteria, chlamydias and rickettsias, and other bacteria not involved with human disease.
