About the Byron Herbert Reece Digital Library
Mission Statement:
The Byron Herbert Reece Digital Library exists to provide scholars and
other interested persons access to information about the Georgia author
Byron Herbert Reece. This collection of his letters and photos with information
about the farm that was so central to his life will allow deeper understanding
of his poetry and novels.
Collection Policy:
The Byron Herbert Reece digital library will collect and make available
images, letters to and from Byron Herbert Reece, unpublished manuscripts,
drafts of published works and other materials felt to be of interest to
persons interested in studying BHR. Images of the farm in its present
state and photos of the author and his family will be included. It will
also assemble electronic resources for the Reece scholar, including Internet
sites. Since English was Reece’s native language, the collection will
be in English.
Organization of
the Collection:
The collection will be organized by category of materials. The letters
bridge the period after WWII to his death, and the photos from the time
of his initial publication by Dutton until his death in 1958.
Resource Description:
The collection will be described for access using Dublin Core metadata
standards.
Access and Use:
A search engine
is not particularly helpful since there is not a great deal of text on
the site. One may be added in the future if more materials are added.
Service Features:
Because of the nature of the materials, the contact information for libraries
and other interested organizations is included in the digital library.
