Young Alumni Council Hosts Alumni Day at Turner Field
Young Harris College alumni, their families and friends enjoyed YHC Alumni Day at Turner Field on May 25. The group had a great view from the Top of the Chop where they enjoyed a hot dog and nacho bar before settling in to watch the game. Alumni of all ages were in attendance, from members of the Class of 1965 to recent graduates like Lauren Chamblin, ’14.
“I’ve been to a bunch of alumni events as a Student Ambassador, but it was so crazy to go to one as an actual alumni,” Chamblin said. “It’s very important to me to stay connected to YHC, because it’s such a special place. It’s so different from any other college—and you never know where the connections you make will lead.”
YHC President Cathy Cox chatted with alumni during the beginning of the game, which ended in a landslide victory for the Atlanta Braves as they defeated the Colorado Rockies, 7-0.
Alumni got the chance to watch YHC alumnus Charlie Blackmon, ’06, wear purple again as a starting right fielder for the Rockies. After an impressive two years at YHC, he went on to Georgia Tech before being called up to the majors in 2011. Blackmon has had a standout season so far with a .310 batting average, 10 homeruns, 38 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
